Is there anyone out there who did not lose hair after surgery? I'm only 7 weeks and hoping it's not going to happen to me but I'm still so early.

I am 5.5 months out and haven't had excess Hair loss. The only time I have more loss than normal is the week before my period, even then it's not horrible. I think I am still in the window to possibly lose but am hoping I am one of the lucky ones that doesn't.

Just remember, those who have thicker hair won't notice if they lose. It's those who have thin hair who notice the most. I attached my pictures of my hair before surgery, during weight loss when I lost my hair and a picture of my hair growing back.

Thanks for showing all three pics! I'm starting to lose more - I'm 4 1/2 mos out. My hairdresser says I have a lot of hair but it is baby-fine so it looks thin. I'm afraid that I'll lose a lot and it'll be obvious. I've been noticing more shedding, and I've been watching closely every morning when I brush it. You pictures reinforce what I know in my head - if I lose it it will come back! :-)

Are any of you taking Biotin. I read on here several months ago about taking this which helps with hair and nails. I started taking it in April as they were going to remove my band in May and wanted to get this in place. So far I'm not losing any hair from that surgery, and I'm not far out enough to know if I will from the bypass. This might help if you are not taking this it is a OTC medication.

I take Biotin and started it pre op.

I'm a little over a month out, so too early for hair loss. However, I've noticed that my nails are growing fast and a lot stronger from taking Biotin. I started taking preop

I found no studies showing that Biotin stops hair loss, just anecdotes, so no statistical support for it.

No point worrying about Hair loss as there is nothing you can do to stop it. Stressing won't help. Just take good care to meet your post-op dietary requirements and treat your hair gently. Go easy with heat and styling aids.

Yeah, I found nothing to support Biotin either. I figured there were enough stories from users though to make it worth taking.

I'm 3 1/2 months out and I too have very fine hair. I'm beginning to shed and my hair looks frizzy and damaged. I've been using argan oil and keratin but no improvement bi started taking Biotin six months prior to surgery and continue to take it. It hadn't helped my hair any but my skin and nails look great!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
