How are people doing 1+ years postop?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I am new to this site and joined for some motivation.

I saw a lot of new posts yesterday, but all from new band patients.

I need some motivation from those a year + postop.

I would like to be losing more. I am happy with my weight loss, just dissapointed it isn't more yet.

I just moved to a new area and in the process of picking between 2 req centers. I have not been good at exercising.

Thanks!

Just over 1 year post-op, moderate restriction but could use some more. Weightloss is at a crawl.

I am 19 months post-op and almost at goal. Most of my remaining weight is extra skin. I too am at a crawl with my weightloss. I have been sick (horrible flu) and not working out like I should. ~Mandy

I am 16 months post op and I understand your feeling about being happy for what I've lost but wanting more. I stalled out at about 70 or 80 lbs and stayed on that level for a a couple of months. You just have to hang in there because the scale will move again. It happens sudden and once you get past that 80 lbs down mark, it feels so much better.

I have had plastic surgery to remove some of the extra skin from my belly and can't wait to get back to the gym. I can now see where to target my reshaping workouts. I never thought I would be one of those people who misses working out but I do! Life is strange that way.

I'm one year out and only down just over 50 pounds. Others have already gone over 100 pounds in their first year. I'm grateful for what I have lost also, but wish I were doing better.

The other thing I had to keep reminding myself is, I didn't gain 300 lbs in a year, I can't expect to lose it in a year. I am not a patient person but seeing the results in others and myself make me know it is worth the wait!

Thanks for those of you who responded to my question.

I think differernt Dr's do different kind of fills as well.

I have the larger band. And only 1cc at a time monthly, while others got 6cc for their first fill.

The weight loss could or may not be the same.

Thanks

Jennifer

Fifteen months post op I am happy and dont have a single regret. I run regularly, I"m of normal weight and I look and feel better than I have in years.

However, I'm not quite a goal weight and I am really struggling with the last 15lb or so. I havent really lost anythign significant in four or five months. I think I need another fill since I can still eat way too much for a bandster, yet I still lost the bulk of my weight this way. I'm really reluctant this far down the track to start with the tightness and PBing and not being able to eat this or that sort of lifestyle. So I really have to evaluate whether its even worth trying to lose anymore. I think it probably is, but I was actually considering going on Lite n Easy (a home delivered diet program) and getting the calories under control rather than getting another fill - since I have not counted a single calorie, fat gram or Protein gram until now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
