4 Syrup ?'s about protein shakes.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'd like to try some Protein Shakes, for pre-tasting and practicing. I'd also like to incorporate syrups in them. I can not use artificial sweetener, health issue. 1. How much of a Protein Shake do you make at a time? 2. How many times a day? 3. How many ounces of Syrup do you put in the shake? 4. Judging on amount put in and shakes a day, will this produce too much sugar allowable for the RNY diet? I've heard that sugar is dangerous to the RNYer, whether for just a period of time or forever. Help! As there is nowhere else for me to get answers/ideas and who better than YOU!

I would make an 8 oz shake 3 times a day in the beginning and dropped to 2 when my NUT told me to, now I'm down to 1. As far as syrups go I highly recommend using the ones made with Splenda and NOT using ones made with sugar! They will make you dump and are unhealthy to use after RNY ! Don't fall back into old habits, make new better choices and you will have great success!

It's not a matter of not wanting to use the Splenda syrups, I simply can't. My GI ordered me to cut out all sweeteners. It's not a habit, just need to set priorities straight,

Can you use extracts? Like vanilla, orange, almond, etc? Little sugar, and a tiny bit, usually a few drops or so, goes a LONG way.

Extract flavorings is a great option if you cant use the syrups, trail and error. Google Protein Shake recipes you will find a lot and can adjust to your taste...I found an one for apple pie using sugar free apple sauce.

Also order some sample packs for differ companies like unjury, etc....also keep in mind what you like now your pouch may not like after. Good luck

If you can't use an artificial sweetener you probably won't be able to use the syrups alt all. The regular ones with pure sugars are way to high and you will most likely get sick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
