I am 2 weeks, 2 days post op. Today I was able to get 70g of Protein but 1000 calories. The majority came from mashed potatoes from whole foods. Is that normal? It worries me I can already be eating that many calories. My doctors rule is 60g protein, less or equal than 1200 cal. That said, it just seems too soon!

Also, I have always been hot natured but this week my feet are FREEZING as are my hands...is that normal? I appreciate y'alls insight. This community is quite impressive & I already appreciate all you've shared in your posts!

I'm 4 weeks and having trouble trying to get in 60gm of Protein and when I do then I'm not hungry, so try to eat about two meals about 1/4 cup each time. I'll probably be chewed out on my next visit, but I am more concerned about staying hydrated so my priority is fluid/shakes with protein. Also, yes the first couple of weeks I noticed I was colder and stayed bundled. I have neuropathy in my feet from diabetes so they feel like they have frost bite, but I did have issues first couple of weeks. It is getting better now or it could be that I have my furnace on and I'm more comfortable. A girlfriend, who had the surgery a week after me, also complained about be cold. So think it is a normal issue.

When you're so new to post op focus on your fluids. All surgeons are different, but I sure was not at 1100 calories at that stage and I'm still not at six months. A good way to do things is follow your protocol to a T. You always worry if your not doing things right. My way is not going to be the same as others. I still am not on starches except for some Beans now and then. Stay hydrated, and not worry about your Protein grams just yet. I eat between 450-to 900 calories a day. Some days are better than others. Don't be afraid to call your NUT either. Hang in there it gets better. :)

I an almost six months post op and get between 800_900 a day, almost all from protein.. I can eat a lot of soft foods...yogurt,etc, but far less hard protein, which, in any case, usually gives me a lot more protein bang for my buck. It sounds like you may be eating a lot of mashed potatoes because of the stage you're in, but they offer no protein, are all empty carbs, and, if you're making them with butter, are also adding fat. Some high protein choices might be eggs, chicken salad made with canned fat free chicken breast and fat free mayo, etc. I would definitely stay away from the potatoes.

Totally agree with you about the potatoes. When I had my band put in that surgeon said that I could kiss a potato but couldn't eat it. Have followed his advice every since, even though he is no longer my surgeon. I also try to eat eggs, chicken salad and tuna salad, also fat free refried Beans, low fat string cheese (chewed well) and of course Protein Shakes to supplement since I'm still eating about 1/4 cup. I'm allowed deli meat, but that hasn't been sitting well so avoiding it.

I tHink all nut and docs will agree your Protein needs to exceed the amount of carbs you consume daily. I don't understand how you are getting 60 gms Protein if you're eating mostly mashed potatoes.

I can't imagine that many calories at your stage. You really should schedule to see your nut or doc.

Thank you all for your replies. Maybe I should clarify - I drink one Protein Drink (25g) a day. Add to that some combination of 4oz of Beans + cheese, cottage cheese, egg + cheese, yogurt, bean Soup. The potatoes are not a daily thing. Per nutrition labels they were 190 cal per 1oz. I had 2 oz...which led to my concerns. In addition, being able to eat 4oz at a time was also a bit worrisome because after reading everyone else's restrictions, I got worried.
