xiomara8868 101 Posted October 10, 2013 Would I be able to eat bread and rice when the time pass? Or is that something that I would have to give up? I know everyone is different.. But is there anyone that has tolerated it with no issues?

ArmyOfMe 82 Posted October 10, 2013 In time you will be able to eat almost anything you used to have pre-op. It's all about choices. Some, intentionally stay away from bread and rice just because it's not a healthy choice compared to fruits, veggies, and you get the idea. If you want to give bread a try, look for wheat bread (personally, I cannot tolerate it due to getting stuck or sitting like a rock in my pouch) and for rice, look for brown rice. Much better than white rice. I do encourage you to follow your team's advice and stick with their plan. 1 xiomara8868 reacted to this
SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted October 10, 2013 I eat bread and brown rice without issue (haven't tried white), I just don't eat much at a time. Yes, it's approved by my doc, in moderation. DLCoggin 1,788 Posted October 10, 2013 White rice and I don't get along. Tried it twice and wound up dumping both times. No problems with brown rice. No dumping problems with bread but I seldom eat it simply because it just sort of sits in the pouch in a big lump. Not painful, just uncomfortably full. And as others have said, there are so many other great options. Long term, the list of things you will not be able to eat will likely be very short. It's a common, but mistaken belief that bypass patients have a long list of foods that they have to give up for life. That is simply not the case. What is true is that the list of foods that you CHOOSE to give up will likely be considerably longer than the list of foods that you HAVE to give up. Which is another way of saying you're gonna love the new you!! 2 oldoneyoungagain and xiomara8868 reacted to this

terry1118 1,274 Posted October 11, 2013 I plan to give up white rice, white Pasta, white bread, and white potatoes for life. Not because I CAN'T eat them (I don't know if I can or not) but because I DON'T WANT to eat them. Those were always trigger foods for me, along with sweets of any kind (another thing I'd like to ditch forever). It's like an alcoholic giving up alcohol. He can't just have a drink once in a while - he has to stay away from it completely. I guess I'm a "carboholic". I will eventually have healthier carbs like brown rice, wheat Pasta, sweet potato, and whole grain bread, but in very limited amounts. That being said I think white rice would bother me if I ate it. I think that because I bought Beanitos to try and they didn't sit well with me. I only ate two but that's all it took. I tried them twice with the same result - gurgles, burping, and foamies. One of the ingredients listed was rice flour - I'm assuming that was the culprit, because the other listed ingredients are common in other foods I've eaten w/o trouble. 1 xiomara8868 reacted to this
oldoneyoungagain 200 Posted October 11, 2013 Since I'm a diabetic, I started noticing before surgery, that my blood sugars soared when eating white rice, so had to give it up. As far as bread, I switched to diet multi grain bread at 45 calories a slice and didn't have problems. So now I basically state that I'm allergeric to rice, white potatoes, white bread, and Pasta. So those I've given up. Haven't tried anything different just yet, even though I can, but having problems trying to get both Protein, Fluid etc in. Just taking one day at a time with the priority being fluid and protein.
