January 2009 I had the lap band surgery I only lost a total of 22 pounds. My lowest weight was 220 my highest is now 298 I have only gained and after having a baby my weight has gotten out of control. I knew I wanted a revision and the sleeve was my first choice but my surgeon said he would only revise to the RNY so now in 4 weeks I will be a new healthier me!!! My current weight is 255 and my surgeon wants me to "lose as much weight as possible" because he said it will be difficult to take the band out at my weight...has anyone elses dr advised them in the same manner? Also I am worried about recovery I am a stay at home mom of a 1 year old..not sure what to expect

I'm 5'6 and was 225 when my band was removed and 255 when my RNY was done 6 months later. The heavier you are, the more crowded things are for surgery, so yes, lose what you can. That said, the do both band and RNY on people much much larger so I think there may be an element of fear factor going on too :). Congrats on bring a step closer!!!!

I know that the surgery is easier the lighter you are but they do it all the time on heavier people. That being said, you do want to make sure you are the healthiest you can be before surgery. And that means following your Dr's advice. I was required to lose 10 lbs the week before. It was really hard, but I followed it to the letter. I figured I was only hurting myself if I didn't.

I wish you luck on your surgery, and you are right, it was great to get the band out!

If you can have someone help you the 1st week that would be great. You will be tired and it will be hard to sleep well. Also, if you are taking pain meds you don't want to be responsible for a 1 year old.

Again, lots of luck to you!

Sue

Sorry, I quoted the wrong person! So if the previous post doesn't make sense, that's why!

That's what I get for always using my phone instead of my computer!

Good luck Razorbackmom!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
