I need a man... lawn talk and bugs.

Recommended Posts

I have been looking around for suggestions on pesticides and a new lawn. My DH does not know, he says that since we just put our lawn in this past week we do not need to put chemicals on it. I say we need to put something on it, because along with our new lawn we have new "friends", aka ants and a roach :girl_hug:.

Does anyone know if we can spray the lawn with bug killer and not kill our new lawn?

Is it sod, hydrospray, plugs...?

If it's sod, when we built our house they put sod down and the landscaper told us nothing chemical, not even fertilizer or bugstuff, until the grass had been cut twice. He said it would take the length of time that two cuttings takes before the roots start to establish enough to tolerate chemicals.

The real question is - out of aan entire lawn, how did you manage to find one roach? :girl_hug:

It found me. Stupid little thing. It either came from the new lawn or the new neighbors, and I am hoping it was the lawn. I killed it right off and have not found another one.

It is funny, to see all that "grass" and only one "roach" .:hippie:

(The kids are using new names for those kinds of things these days though.)

I asked my DH (aka Mr. Better Homes and Gardens) and he agrees with Wheetsin - do not apply fertilizer or bug killers until the roots have had a chance to establish themselves.

I don't think regular bug killer for lawns kills roaches anyway, does it? You need an exterminator for that. They will spray a barrier around your house so they don't come inside.

There is a company here in Florida called "Nozzle Nolan" that does non-chemical lawn care.

I do not know if theyt are in your state.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
