DangerousD 77 Posted November 6, 2013 I just started my pre-op today. It has been less than 8 hours and I already am going nuts. I am on a pure second stage liquid diet. I am thinking about selling my oldest child for a tortilla chip, as long as it didn't count towards cheating. And keep in mind, I like her. (My youngest, I would sell for half a tortilla chip, but might not get any takers.) How I admire all of you have successfully gone through this! I don't know if it is the idea I can't have anything or the fact that for the first time, I am actually hungry. I have been on a 1500 calorie diet for six months now, but this is different. Either way, I want to devour the whole pantry. I won't because I am a bleeping grown-up. But I sure as shooting want to. Also, what is with these stupid headaches that go along with this??! grrr As I hang here, holding on to the ledge, tell me it gets better? If not, lie to me. 5 Teachamy, TvlGrl712, BethinPA and 2 others reacted to this
McButterpants 2,846 Posted November 6, 2013 Hi there. I'm on Day 8 of my 2 week pre-op. It will get better, just be patient. I have felt hunger over the past 8 days that I have never felt before. (I'm allowed two shakes and one meal w/ meat and veg in the evening.) I told my husband the other day, I don't crave any particular food, I just want food. I am hungry. But the weird thing is the hunger passes fairly quickly with some green tea or some Water. And, keep busy - that will make it easier, too. Hang in there - it will get better and, believe it or not, it will get easier. You will find your groove. Best of luck to you - just keep your eye on the prize. 2 ProudGrammy and DangerousD reacted to this
sknyinside 99 Posted November 6, 2013 It gets easier. The first 2-3 days will likely be your worst. Carbs are like crack in my humble opinion. Once you get past the cravings for them, the physical cravings anyway, it does get easier. Headaches are likely from a combination of carb withdrawal and reduced calories. It does get better. Don't sell her for a tortilla chip. Hold out for cheesecake. Oh, wait. Strike that! Sorry. LOL That reminds me of my youngest son. When he was little, his older/protective brother would worry incessantly over someone taking him when we were out shopping. He might be three feet away, but big brother was freaking out. I would tell him, "Don't worry. He's right here. I can reach out and touch him." Big brother "But, Ma, someone might take him!" Tired mom "Don't worry. They'd bring him back." Big brother laughs at that point and says, "Yeah. They probably would." in a fit of giggles. 7 DangerousD, roundisashape, gamergirl and 4 others reacted to this
kmbrcvzs 23 Posted November 6, 2013 It is hard to do the 2 week diet. I had to do 6 shakes a day for 2 weeks, no food! It doesn't get any better after the surgery I had 2 days of Clear Liquids and I am now just coming to the end of 2 weeks of regular liquids. Tomorrow I finally see the surgeon and I should start 2 weeks of pureed food! Good luck it's hard to just drink your meals. 1 DangerousD reacted to this
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted November 6, 2013 I got super lucky during my two week. I got the worst cold I've ever had and was allowed to take Nyquil and Tylenol PM. I slept for almost 4 days of it. Start licking grocery cart handles, I am sure you can do the same! 5 DangerousD, ReDbEaN, roundisashape and 2 others reacted to this
endless80 697 Posted November 6, 2013 I didn't have to do a diet before my surgery at all, just 2 days before surgery I had to only drink liquids. PreOp diets... I GET that they're "supposed" to do something important in theory but I don't buy them really. Everyone I know cheated and everyone I know still got the sleeve and lost a ton of weight. lol 1 unbesleevable1 reacted to this

Everyone I know cheated and everyone I know still got the sleeve and lost a ton of weight. lol Well, I would agree with you but two weeks ago, we went on a Halloween cruise as a last hurrah, and I did enough damage to my liver, I better stick with the diet just in case. Thus, the 4 lb weight gain. But soooo worth it. I am thinking of getting the shirt that says, "Hi, I am B_tchy! The 8th drawf!" Thanks all for the encouragement. It helps so much to talk to people who have gone through this. Edited November 6, 2013 by DangerousD 2 hiddis and gamergirl reacted to this
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted November 6, 2013 I can't imagine giving someone the roundabout ok to ignore thir doctor's orders because "everyone cheats" (I didn't) and because one (who isn't an MD to my knowledge) doesn't "buy them". Just sayin! 3 No game, NMJG and ReDbEaN reacted to this

piercedqt78 658 Posted November 7, 2013 it's not bad that you are considering it, it's bad if you post an ad on craigslist for the trade. 1 DangerousD reacted to this
DangerousD 77 Posted November 7, 2013 I realize your concerns. However, I never said I was not going to follow the doctor's pre-op diet. In fact, I said that I was. Sheesh. I didn't mean to cause controversy. I just wanted to rant about how horrible the pre-op diet is. And it is horrible. I do not remember ever being this hungry before. However, I trust my doctor, and have done too much to get this far for him not to operate. (His words were, "If patient has only one bite, I will not operate.") That being said, there does not seem to be an industry standard for pre-op diets. I have seen everything from 3 weeks to 24 hours. And everything from liquid diet to small meals. It is confusing. And piercedqt, don't give me any ideas. 1 piercedqt78 reacted to this

outwithbenjiboi 227 Posted November 7, 2013 I dont understand the dieting right before surgery. Dont all docs/ins companies require 3-6 months of med managed weight loss before surgery? I had to see a NUT weekly, show proof of an exercise program (she reviewed the past week on my pedometer), go on a prescription for phentermine, weigh in weekly, etc etc. I had to do just 3 months, and I lost 30 lbs (286-256). The only thing I had to do pre-op was NPO after midnight the night before.
piercedqt78 658 Posted November 7, 2013 And piercedqt, don't give me any ideas. let it be known I said that the craigslist ad was a bad idea. For a few reasons, 1. you can get something much better than a chip for your child. 2. trading children to strangers is a bad idea. 3. you will need said child's help post-op, better keep them around for a while longer. Seriously, you can do this, and it is soooo worth it. I just posted in another thread, but will share here too, call your doc and ask if you can thicken some broth with corn starch, it makes it like egg drop Soup without the egg pieces. Some docs will ok this. If they do use a bowl and spoon to eat it, that helps to trick your body into feeling like it is getting actual food. 1 DangerousD reacted to this
