:girl_hug: Hi, I saw your post from a few days ago. I also am getting banded at Hurley in Flint. I do not have a date set yet but am hoping for April. How far are you away from a surgery date? Glad to hear from someone else in Michigan, and the same hospital!!!

Hiya Margi! Let's PM :girl_hug:

It is nice to see another going to Hurley. There don't seem to be very many of us here, but I realize they've only been banding for a little over a year. I just chatted a bit with BooBooKitty, she was banded there, too.

I don't have a date yet, either. I went to my information session in late February and I have a consultation March 20th. Can't wait!

Hi Faithmd, I left a message on my private one for you, but not sure if it went through.I really dont know how to put a message on for a private one. Anyway, then maybe we were in the same class at Hurley with Dr. Obeid, on Feb. 20?? Tell me, then is it that there is to be another consultation with him before the surgery? I am finding that so far things have been quite unorganized at that place. What is PM? If it is like being a partner that would be great as you and I will probly have our surgeries near the same time. Will be waiting to hear from you!!

I did not receive one from you yet. I'll send you another.

I was in the class on the 21st of Feb. Yes, they scheduled appointments to see Dr. Obeid that evening when you turned in your paperwork. I was the large redhead sitting in the front on the left side if you were facing Dr. Obeid as he spoke. I kept asking him questions and he tried to gently take me to task about his son being a med student and needing to see things when I asked if Hurley uses residents to do surgery. That's not what I meant and I told him I didn't mind people watching, I just didn't want a resident PLACING my band.

I have to get to be and take a nap (I work nights) I'll try to sign on from work.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
