Would that be in Alberta, Canada? If so, there is a Canadian support group where you might find pertinent information.http://www.verticals...al-vsg-support/

Sorry I won't be too much help to you. I live in Edmonton and getting in here through insurance is a nightmare.

I wasn't willing to wait two years so I'm going to Mexico next week for mine with Ariel Ortiz at the Obesity Control Center! Couldn't be happier with my choice of surgeon this far. Unfortunately, I can't tell you his price, it's in the agreement, but if you email asking them, they will quote you. They are not spammers and will not contact you pushing you to set a date. I asked many questions and they never pushed before I finally set my date. The coordinators are very helpful.

But I remember being in your position at the beginning. If you're ok waiting, then first step is to go to your doctor (I tried to go directly to a surgeon and they directed me to weight wise who then told me I need a referral from my doctor). Tell your doctor you are considering the sleeve and go in prepared. Being well informed makes them more confident you have done your homework and are serious.

Then your doctor will send your referral to weight wise. They will EVENTUALLY call you for a consultation appointment (I've been on the list a year and still haven't received that call despite calling back and making sure I was on the list, so who knows what the wait for surgery is these days). After that consultation they will send you to some health conscious seminars that its mandatory you go to at least 4 of them and put you on a 6 month diet. If you can reach your goal weight they set for you and demonstrate an ability to maintain healthy choices, they will put you on another list and then you wait for a surgery date.

I'm impatient though and hate jumping through hoops so I was like... NOPE, Mexico in a month? Two week preop diet? LETS DO THIS.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
