Hi, I'm 3 weeks post op so i have lots of experience with Protein Shakes. I used the Unjury chicken and really liked it. I did find that I added more Water than directed because it was a bit strong for my taste. There is no whey taste to it at all though. Make sure you don't heat it too much or the Protein in it will clump. For shakes I like Boost and Ensure high protein and low calorie. Also I like the EAS Myoplex lite powder and shakes. You can always mix your own using a vanilla or chocolate powder as a base. Get some Torani sugar free syrups to add for different flavors. Hope this helps!

I would honestly not buy anything till after your surgery is over. Also buy from GNC so you can take powders back incase you do not like them.

I got a small sample pack from unjury for the chicken broth but it was super salty.

Just relax and purchase it when you are in your first week.. You should be on clears and more worried about staying hydrated than drinking Protein right away. Week 2 is generally when people can be on full liquids and its easier to add in items like that.

Good luck.

I stocked up ahead of time. I used orange flavored Isopure to make Jello (used it in place of water) for really high Protein Jello. Made it and tried it pre-op and it was a staple for me after. I also bought some random Protein shake (premade) at GNC and used 1/2 pack of sugar free hot chocolate in it and blended with ice. It was really good - and that was helpful b/c I hate the taste of Protein shakes! As soon as I was off clears I bought Soups and blended them until liquid enough that a spoon would not stand up in them - that made them thin enough to easily digest. I stopped using the shakes and other protein supplements about a month post op (when I went to the solid foods phase). My dietician really pushes no liquid calories and eating three meals a day. It ended up being really good advice and a good way to train someone like me who likes to graze!

Good luck - you are in for an amazing adventure!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
