When do the mood swings go away?

Recommended Posts

I had heard that there is a lot of Serotonin produced in the portion of the stomach that is removed in producing the sleeve. I regularly had issues with being lethargic and feeling depressed off and on throughout the first year. No lab work was conclusive, low but WNL. I took liquid geritol and increased my D3 intake during that time and just kept plugging away. I am 19 months out and still working at it every day. I've lost 136 pounds and have 15 to go. Sometimes the emotional journey is the greatest hurdle that we face. You'll get there and it will ALL be worth it!!!

That's interesting about the serotonin. I hadn't realized that. I guess add to that no serotonin from happy carbs either, and perhaps we get a double whammy hunh?

Im feeling you on the mood swings. Everything was fine and dandy yesterday and then out of nowhere this psychotic woman was screaming at my son for a not very good reason. Today I should be happy about my gym success, and instead Im sitting here (waiting for my son to finish playing bball with his friend) and I feel like breaking down and crying over the guilt of not getting my son more active before now (even though he has always been in a sport or swim lessons...I never brought him to the Y on a regular basis, I didn't play enough catch or run enough with him). Im being a complete Debbie downer :/ Im hoping when I get home and get a shower, dinner, and some cuddle time with the hubs I'll feel better. I have battled with depression on and off my entire life, but still can't bring myself to take the Zoloft or Wellbutrin due to side effects. Im hoping I can pull myself out soon before I get too deep. I hope happy days are ahead for you gamer :) ::hugs::

Are you feeling better? I took a mental health day from work and am feeling somewhat human again. Hope you are too.

Yes, I snapped at the hubs a few times, but Im feeling normal at the moment. My mood swings don't seem to last long, they are just sudden and a little......extreme shall we say? Im hoping the rest of the week goes fast. We are going to Erie PA this weekend for a mini vacation. I think we all need it lol

Glad you're feeling somewhat human again :) Maybe by tomorrow night you can feel almost human, and by the weekend feel totally human lol

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
