Mexico or not

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I went to Mexico. I went with dr. Alvarez and I loved it. I was so nervous and read all the blogs and every piece of information I could find. I was obsessed with knowing everything. It was a breeze. I highly recommend it! I had mine done with dr. Alvarez July 15th. I started at 267. Today I am 185. It has been the best decision I ever made. I read people sayin that and would thing whatever but trust me. You will not regret it. Check out dr. Alavarez. Very nice staff. Right over the border was important to me and you can practically see the US from there. ;) message me if you have any questions! ;)

That sounds like me at this point right now. I've been in the forums, the blogs, watched all the videos I can. I've even been in touch with Susan to determine if he'd take me. He says he will. I've gone over it and over it. The only think I haven't done is commit and set the surgery date. I don't know what's making me feel freaked about at this point.

The reason why I would never consider it, you have no legal recourse if things go bad. However, many do based on price. Dr Alveraz seems to have a huge following and many You Tube success stories. I also feel sucess is increased with a great post op support group. I'm not talking about an on line group. I am still pre-op but attend the monthly support group where my proceedure will be done. I have learned so much and have had all my questions answered face to face with those that have been there and done that. At yesterdays support group we had a very good trainer that works with bariatric patients come in and talk about exercise for one hour. Than a group session for 1 hour. Great information. This support is available for life and its convient for me.

I agree a support group is a great thing. And might come into play. But I'm lucky enough that group in my town is open and you don't have to have done your surgery with them to go.

One of the reasons I going to have my surgery with Dr. Quinones is because he is 1 hour or so away from me! If anything happens I will be right in his waiting room! Lol

I talked it over with my pcp and he thinks it's a great idea for me to have the surgery with Dr. Q!

A major problem for me with Mexico is the follow up support. I have one year of Nut, Doc and shrink support plus a monthly face to face support group that also has online support. And I have legal recourse should it be required. Self pay at my clinic costs 21K. Dr Alverez in Mexico costs 10K plus all the extras and travel. I feel I got the better deal. Its your body. Most of the staff at my clinic has had one form or another of bariatric surgery. Nothing like support from those with first hand experience.

I had mine on Juy 23rd with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. Like others my insurance company doesn't pay. Even with folks who have insurance that does pay they have to jump through 100's of hoops. Remember folks, insurance companies make medical decisions not Doctors. Just like having a 12 year old change the transmission in your car. all went well and I continue to loose weight

I had surgery in Mexico in 2012 and had a wonderful experience. I have written some articles that you might find helpful. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I am an open book about my surgery. Just follow the links below and it will take you right to them. I hope the info helps! http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/306639-general-advice-for-those-researching-weight-loss-surgery-in-mexico/ The surgery was the best thing that I have EVER done for myself. I went from 235 lbs. and currently weight 149 lbs. I would do it over time and time again. Good luck to you!

That moment...

Excellent, informative information! Well worth the read! @@zmdh39

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
