Am I too tight?

Recommended Posts

I just got a fill on Friday and I am having to wait until atleast 11:00 or 12:00 every day before I can get down liquids. In the evening it's much easier. I have been staying on mostly liquids and softer foods because I thought I might have some swelling and I don't want to aggravate anything down there. I am starting to add more solid foods today. When I start trying to drink and when the food/liquid is going through the band, it feels like my throat muscles are soooo tight. When everything has passed through the band my throat feels more relaxed. Has anyone else experienced this and do you think I am too tigh or is this normal?

Not normal in the sense that this is the way you should live forever. But, I've heard of other people being swollen/extra tight for a week or so following a fill so in that sense it may be a temporary normal thing for you following fills if you're body is prone to the swelling issue. My advice would be to give it a week if you can stand it and if it's still the same then call your doctor. I don't have this issue at all and it doesn't sound like any fun.

I would give it a little time. I went for a unfill and fills are costly to begin with and then had to go right back and get my fill plus some. Sometimes are bodies swell, like how your wedding rings get tight so does your stomcah and stoma. If it's that time of month you'll be tighter and if you have bad sinus that will too. I would just give it a little while and try to drink something very hot first thing in the moring helps me soooo much. If I drink hot cocoa or something I have no problems but without it I too can't eat until lunch or so. Good luck.

I agree with the other comments - if you can stand it wait a few more days as everyone is different with swelling, etc. Esp if this is a first fill for you (my doc has patients who have their first fill on liquids for 3 days and after that just 1 day).

If it doesn't change I would suggest an unfill - even the tiny-est amounts can make a huge difference. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on what is the correct fill for them but if you are uncomfortable and have trouble with solids, do what is right for you.

A lot of people are tight in the morning but imo you need solids for lunch and dinner. liquid calories don't fill you up and you may end up overeating.

You might end up like me. My current situation is that most mornings, I can only drink, so I have a Protein Shake. Sometime between noon and 2, I'm open enough for food. I can open it up more int he morning with Hot Drinks, but I only do that if I'm going out for Breakfast with hubby. Otherwise, I like my shakes and it gets me a huge start on Protein (muscle milk).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
