Acne prone skin..

Recommended Posts

For acne there's are to really only two things that I would reccommend based on the research. Either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Everything else is window dressing. Salicylic acid works better for me benzoyl peroxide (eg proactive) works better for others.

Sal acid cleans out the pore and will exfoliate your dry flaky skin, Benz deals with any infection you've got. I'd find creams with at least 2% sal. Acid or 10% Benz and very little else's and try those.

Google Paula Begoun. She rates products for their ability to perform based on ingredients, not brand names. Her acne section is also very, very educational.

Good luck!

Curious if you've tried Vanicream, or EltaMD Intense? I also have rosacea and very sensitive skin, these have been lifesavers for me (in combination with religious use of Finacia to control flare ups). Both have minimal ingredients and are very rosacean-friendly.

Until this thread, I had never heard of Vanicream. Where do I get it and the other one you mentioned, EltaMD?

Vanicream can be found at many drugstores, I buy it at Walgreens. EltaMD Intense can be found online, I usually get it from drugstore, com.

I was really interested in this whole coconut oil thing so did a quick Google search and got horrifying results, 9 out of 10 responses in the various pages I went to said the exact same thing - first few days amazing smooth lovely, then suddenly, covered in bumps that take a very long time to go away. coconut oil is comodogenic no matter how virgin. I wish it weren't so, because it seemed like the perfect answer.

I had horrible acne flare ups since I was a teen. I do remember when I started using coco oil there was an initial breakout, but I stuck with it for those few days and I have never looked back. I have been using it for years. It is a natural antibacterial and anti fungal. It isn't for everyone, but I have converted a handful of friends and we all love it. Good luck, I know how frustrating it is.

Every product mentioned ^ makes my skin worse' date=' I must just have the most sensitive skin in the world and yet, if I don't wash it with a product, I get pimples from that. Also as a dermatologist once told me, nose and above is hygiene, below the nose (bottom of face I mean) is hormonal and it doesn't matter what product you are using, that is internal hormonal.. I also have rosacea and need anti-inflammatory products and I'm on an autoimmune protocol now and all of those products, yes even neutrogena and aveeno, contain all sorts of methyl ethyl tri sulfate etc etc.[/quote']

A lot of people do find that coconut oil is comodegenic. I personally use castor oil (which gets into pores and pushes gunk out) and grape seed for a carrier (though you can use olive, jojoba, coconut, whatever oil). The two are slightly drying so I finish with a hint of argon oil to moisturize. Yes, people do experience purging (those little zits that come with a new skin routine) but it goes away. If you want I can post pictures of my purging stage vs. what it looks like now.

I love Proactiv. I use all their products. I never believed it would work, because I have tried everything. But it does!.What I would recommend to the OP is their Green Tea Moisturizer. It is fabulous. It feels great and soaks in wonderfully.

I third this :) I can only just Proactiv. Green Tea Moisturizer is awesome btw!! I've tryd so many products out there. And my face even gets worse! Had an acne problem since a teenager. Wish I could have grown outta it!! Sadly not the case! Grrhh I just recently "As in like 4 weeks ago" tryd "DMK" products body and face. It to broke me out like nastly! As for dry skin....YIKES It's not just my face but whole body! I read about dry brushing on here once a few weeks ago but sadly I cant find the thread again. :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
