Advice needed on Exercising

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

Help me please!!! I was sleeved on 8/6, I am doing well but having issues getting my Protein and Water in. My bigger issue which I know is related to the food is lack of exercise due to lack of energy. I go, go, go all day and evening. From work, to kids, to selling my house I am never sitting still but I have still not made time for planned exercise. Its turning cold here in Iowa and its dark early and my motivation is at a stand still....so is my weight, I have lost about 34 pounds, but its all coming off very slowly. I would like to know what others did to start exercising. What activities, how often and how long. Any other advice is appreciated as well. Thanks!!

I got a fitbit for myself and do 10,000 steps a day at minimum. I also do weight training for 30-45 mins 4 days a week, 3 days a week I run for 30 mins. The easiest thing is to carve out some time somehow, treat it like an appointment you make with yourself everyday.

If you're just starting out,I would set a very modest goal for yourself. If you can afford it get a fitbit or a simple pedometer. I found those very very motivating.

I started wearing a pedometer years ago and discovered how little I was walking. It was horrifying! I knew we were supposed to walk 10,000 steps but I wasn't even getting in 1,000. So I set my goal to 500, then 1000, etc and worked my way up to 10,000 which is 4 miles. I literally would go out to my car in the parking lot for nothing--because that added 250 steps to my pedometer :) It becomes a fun game and you're only competing against yourself so there's no outside pressure. Oh and going to the bathroom at work? 125 steps :)

But if I had set the goal at 4 miles initially I would have failed. If you're already running around all day, why not get some credit for it, right? No one says exercise has to be at a gym.

Log your steps, log the house cleaning into MFP, log the cooking into it. Once you see what you're already doing, then increasing that is easy.

Good luck!

Try planning. I haven't done it myself yet but it is supposed to help a lot of body parts firm up. And walk around your house. My dog thinks I am nuts when I walk in place. She barks at me.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
