Hello. I am 2 weeks out and attempted to eat a small bite of some chicken chili. I have been eating regular bean chili without a problem and I chew it up real good. It goes down easy but this chicken chili feels like its stuck. I have been drinking Water and it sloy gurgles down but it usually gurgles down much faster and louder. I think some of the chicken might be stuck? Please help... what can I do to help whatever is hung up slither down?

Feeling scared at this point. Km not throwing up or anything and my Water is going down slowly but not like it normally does. I'm afraid to take my other medicine and Vitamins. I don't want it to back up.

A few days ago, a pill got stuck in my esophagus, which was kind of scary. I just kept sipping Water until it finally went down. I also just kept swallowing my saliva if I was too full of water to help with the movement of the esophagus to help what was stuck get past. I'm not sure if what you ate is bigger than the pill, but try that and see if it helps at all. I'm sorry I can't think of anything else :( hope it goes down soon.

I have trouble with hamburger for some reason. I ate 2 oz of KC strip tonight and I've had some pork rib meat with no issues. Must be a texture thing or the higher tendon volume in ground beef. Hope it gets better for you!

2weeks out is too early for chicken. You should only be eating mushy food. Your stomach will not heal for another 4-6 weeks.

My nut had told me to get meat tenderizer and mix it wit Water. after drinking that it should help the meat go down. Sorry I'm not sure on how much to use. I think it was a teaspoon and couple ounces of water.

Callchrissy, sorry to hear you are having a problem but as Mokee says, it's too soon for chicken, no matter how well chewed it is.

All docs/nuts are different but stick with what's on your food plan and at the moment, that's likely to be purees. Think of your new stomach as being like a baby's - you need to wean it on to solids over a period of weeks to let it heal. Even if you can get food down, might not be doing you any good. Your stomach is still numb and swollen, so you won't feel it if you are eating the wrong thing.

Don't be scared, the food will eventually go down but it does show that there is still swelling in your stomach. This will pass, think of it as a lesson learned. Good luck on your journey.

Thanks everyone. I knew it would be to soon but I thought since it was like a creamy chili it would be ok. Lesson learned.

.......this chicken chili feels like its stuck......

I know this was last night, and I hope everything turned out okay.......You might want to ask your doctor/nutritionist for an "anti-blockage" recipe......I was sent home with one.....unfortunately, I'm not home so I don't have it with me---my phone/internet are out at the house.

The 2nd suggestion they gave me for anti-blockage is chewing papaya enzime tablets (found on Amazon, GNC, natural food stores)......people with their original stomachs use this to aid in digestion.

Hope this helps.

Here's the recipe I have for anti-blackage:

1/2 teaspoon Adolf's meat Tenderizer (also contains papaya enzyme)

1 teaspoon lemon juice

4 oz tap Water

Sip Slowly over one hour

(I don't know what that tastes like, but chewing 1-2 papaya enzyme tablets sounds a whole lot better-----they're not bad tasting, either)

It passed and I'm doing good now. Does the food stuck feeling go away? Why does it get stuck even with small amounts? Did they make the whole into the stomach smaller or is this just temporary???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
