Having a melt down!

Recommended Posts

Idk why I am so emotional about not being able to eat what I want when I want. Its just food! Why can't my brain figure that out... It seems like the smallest things trigger me and I just break down. I'm only 2 weeks out and everyone says it gets better but I am having a hard time believing :(

It will get better.

It will just take a few more weeks. Hang in there. You can do. Follow your surgeon's orders and just give it a couple more weeks.

It will be so worth it.

I promise. :)

It does! I promise! And to be honest, you'll love the feeling you get when you see those pounds flying off MUCH more than the feeling you used to get after polishing off a plate of (insert food of choice here) :)

Make sure you're getting your Protein shakes in (if you're cleared for those by your surgeon of course). That will help you stay full and keep your mind off other foods. Try jazzing them up with PB2, coconut milk, etc. for variety!

Awww. *hugs* I promise it will get better.

When I was 2 weeks out I had a few emotional break downs too. It was the same thing.. Man I really want that food they are eating.. Am I really going to be able to do this? (Water works).

It' normal I promise it's from hormones mostly and some of it is grieving the food. Keep reminding yourself it's ok to get a little "crazy" sometimes and more importantly remind yourself of the reason you wanted this done! You are going to do great.

It's powdered Peanut Butter (has less fat and calories though) I add it to my chocolate Protein Shakes and it is amazing! I buy it at Whole Foods, but I've seen a few folks on here say their Wal-Mart carries it.

I hope you love it, too! I swear it's what got me through my last two weeks of full liquids. If you haven't checked it out yet, Google "World According to Egg Face." It's a great site with a slew of tips and recipes.

Amen to what the others have said...it will get better...much better! I'm almost 6 months post-op and my wife is 4 months...and we're loving life!

I honestly feel like those first few months were a lifetime ago...distant memories! Although I still cringe at the thought of chicken broth, Greek yogurt and Jello! LOL

Hang in there, follow docs orders to the letter and I promise, you'll look back a few months from now and feel the same way!

Good luck!

Best advice I can give is - get as much good use out of this stage as you can. A few months down the line you will be able to eat nearly anything. There comes the hard part. I am back to being hungry somewhat and desiring some of the same things I used to. I can't eat nearly as much (sweets in particular) as I used to eat, but I shouldn't be eating such "trigger foods" at all! It does get better, but it becomes more challenging.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
