my wife's surgeon is concerned about issues with reflux post surgery. Has anyone that has had the sleeve done experienced reflux after the fact? If you have, how has it been handled? Thank you

Yes I had it before and it is actually worse now. I am on Pepcid twice a day.

I had bad reflux before, and nothing now (so far; it's only been 10 days.) My surgeon also did a hiatal hernia repair. Originally he was not in favor of the sleeve for me because it's contraindicated for reflux, but after I researched the lap band I didn't think it would work as well for me. I'm happy with the choice.

This reflux I had prior but after as I began the week of foods to try; I noticed it after eating too fast and not a erraser size piece slowly. My doctor gave me some reglan spelled wrong probably:( but it's for children with reflux. After the week, I backed up and began to eat more slowly and it went away. I only notice the feeling of it if I eat tooo fast or the portion size is too much. I don't take anything for it now/ but if I feel full get up and walk around some and it works. Good luck...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
