Whew I finally turned in all my requirements to cigna! I'm a little nervous due to my bmi of 39.9 with no morbidity. I called cigna on friday and it's still in review should I call back on monday? and what if they denied me. My crossing my fingers that they approve me. Im so ready for the help of a life style change.

I know how you feel, it is out of your hands now....all up to the almighty insurance companies! There is a kind of helpless feeling, nothing more you can do now but pray and keep the faith.

I sent in my request with a BMI of 52.25 and I have MS, sleep apnea, COPD, and degenerative discs, and was denied, I appealed their decision, and it was denied again. Finally 4 1/2 months later I was still not approved and was pretty upset. But my surgeon appealed because he true believed I needed this sleeve surgery....I don't know what he said to them and I don't care but he got it approved and my surgery was scheduled ....October 9th seemed so far away but boy did it come up fast!

I love my Doctor, Dr. Brian Gluck in Muskegon Michigan, I think he is God, I will do everything that man asks of me no matter what it is I will do it! And his staff are wonderful I think every one of them have had the same surgery so you can talk to any of them if I had questions.

Anyway....long story short I looked on U tube and every video was how awful it is after...I know it is hard but don't watch them they will only scare you. Emotionally you don't need that information, have faith in yourself and your doctor (and God) and they will get you through anything!

The waiting is hard. My paper work was submitted on Oct 29. I was told that it will take 5 business days but I have already called in twice to make sure that they had all of the paper work they needed. I am so ready to get on with the next step of this process.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
