How bad is it for me to be eating pizza, chips with cheese. I'm only about 5 weeks out and should only be eaying soft foods. I do eat soft foods for the most part. I'm wondering what is the damage I've done if I eat these foods. I also ate one hotdog and mac n cheese. Can someone Let me know. I have stayed away from sweets. I ate pickles and jalapenos.

i'm a year out and I've not had pizza yet, and don't intend to... I've had jalepenos on occasion, but only when I feel the need to go to the toilet and I'm getting desperate - it does usually work! I went through a major operation to get to the other side and be a healthier person, so don't really want to jepordise that by getting in to bad habits again.

Oh darlin. Let me first tell you that eventually you will be able to eat those things a little bit at a time, not like you used to, but for special occasions or just a once in a while craving but you really need to NOT be doing that. I think you really know that and are just wanting us to help you get on track.

You really need to look at why you did this surgery and realize that this behavior is not helping to create good habits like you should be creating good habits right now.

Please talk to your Dr and your NUT and let them help you. Get all that stuff out of your house!!!! It only serves as a temptation right now. It is harder to fall off the wagon if you dont have those bad things tempting you in the house and you have to make a special effort to go get them.

You can do this!!!! Keep your eye on the prize (and it isnt pizza, chips and hot dogs! It is a new healthier you!!!!)

Whoa there cowgirl, pump the breaks. Sounds like somebody likes living on the edge! In my own mind this seems like the bariatric equivalent to emotional cutting. I don't know you and have not even looked at your profile but just ask yourself why you had this surgery in the first place and what you were hoping to accomplish in doing so. If after evaluating all that you determine pizza and cheesy mac and hot dogs are all still part of the equation then do you. Just remember you were gutted like a fish 5 weeks ago and there is a reason that your medical team recommended certain food progression steps. After all there is just a tiny little row of delicate staples separating that chili dog from spilling onto your internal organs. Bon appetit!

How bad is it? I don't think you are really asking that because no one here is going to recommend you go against doctor's orders which is soft foods. Don't ask us, call your doctor's office ask him or her. I'm not going to berate you but I am going to tell you to seek support. We'll cheer you on when you are tempted to cheat and tell you why to not do it. I had a very desperate post during the preop diet! But we can't help you after the fact with an, "oh that's ok". It's not and it is irresponsible to pretend like it is. When you are feeling like you just can't take it, PM me. I'm on here early mornings and late evenings. Now dust yourself off, start over and go open a can of refried Beans.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
