pittsy 3 Posted November 2, 2013 I had surgery on 10/23, and followed the 10 day liquid diet before surgery. I've struggled with getting my liquids and Protein in following surgery, but on Wednesday I started having hunger pangs. I was surprised because I didn't think that would happen so quickly. I'm dying to get off the liquid stage which should happen Next week, but I've already been experimenting with mashed potatoes and Beans. I haven't had problems with these foods and it's been satisfying my hunger. I know I shouldn't be advancing ahead, but the liquid isn't cutting it. Any thoughts? feedyoureye 3,087 Posted November 2, 2013 I would stick with the docs plan. Your staple line needs a serious break... and eating "real" food will come soon enough... giving in to the temptation to cheat will come back to bite you too... take it slow. Sometimes the hunger feeling can be acid, or thirst as well... or maybe even hunger! Some never lose the feeling.
Threetimesacharm 1,400 Posted November 2, 2013 It is probably not hunger pains but your stomach healing. It will be making noises but not from hunger. You may also need to be taking a PPI this also mimics hunger. Don't progress through the stages to quickly as you can do harm to your healing stomach; remember you have a large staple line that needs to heal.
Michellemo 161 Posted November 2, 2013 I woke up from surgery hungry. I'm 14 months out and gave lost 172 pounds so hunger pangs haven't had a negative affect on me. I get hungry so I eat a few bites and I'm full so it's not been a problem.
peachie86 63 Posted November 4, 2013 I started feeling hunger the first wee out. The liquid stage will pass, I was to frightened to damage my sleeve to eat before doctor advised.
