Wait for your doctor to advise you to move to the next level.

Just follow your docs instructions, he or she is better prepared to advise you than anyone on this forum is.

Most post op diets start with a few days of clears, then progress to a couple weeks of full liquids. Mine starts purees at 3 weeks post op. I should be just in time for some mashed potatoes on thanksgivng. Cant flippin wait!

I have heard of many variations of post op diet and it depends on what your doctor prescribes. Some start purees as soon as a week post op. Some are more cautious. You have to ask your doctor, and if you're unclear, don't be shy. Call that office up and request some meal plans. I know my pre op binder came with like a week of sample meal plans for each stage. Good luck and dont progress your diet faster than your doctor has suggested.

I was on full liquids for 17 days post op. It was rough, but I felt a sense of accomplishment for sticking to it. It gave me the confidence and courage to continue to make good choices. Success begets success...with weight loss, that was new feeling for me! I suggest you follow your docs plan, whatever it is. If you have identified you are making bad choices, I suspect you might know what good ones are :) You can do this!

The Clear Liquids consist of jellow, puddings, Water, broths, shakes... I am out farther but I didn't want to mess with the surgery in any way so it would heal. It's in our minds if we think we have to go back to eat like before.

My suggestion would be to speak to the nutritionist at your doctor's office by phone or email/ apt. Let her know what you are eating journal and how much. She can help you with suggestions to help you get through.

Also the group meetings twice a month: Would be great to attend your not the only one who's bored with the liquids and people themselves post op can be a great help to give suggestions on what they did when they experienced it.

I was told to follow exactly if I wanted success so just remember we had habits before and a habit can be broken.

When it's just you and the menu: You cannot fail you can ask your nutritionist or doc if you can add Peanut Butter to your shakes and some spice to give you a different taste.

Best wishes to your success... no one likes the first few stages but we just do them and when your clothes dont' fit and your looking in the mirror feeling that success: it's worth it.

Hang in there. I feel like u. Try to inject flavor to broth with mild herbs. I love Ensure high Protein (vanilla or chocolate), or muscle milk that comes in many flavored. Use propel when you get bored with Water.

I agree with folks here, call the nutritionist for more ideas. You need to build diversity so is easier to adapt to your new lifestyle.

All the best to us!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
