Had my surgery this past Tuesday and am asking y'all what is the easiest way you have found in taking your crushed pills. No matter what they taste terrible. Also being on clear sugar free drinks' date=' what have you found that taste the best?[/quote']

I eat with pudding. I tried Jello but it tasted gross

I use a little plastic sandwich bag and then I use a hammer to crush them. I use apple sauce, yogurt is awful and pudding isn't as good.

You might check with your surgeon on this, but mine recommended 2 Flintstones chewable Vitamins for my daily vites, and a liquid Calcium supplement. I'm also on D3, but they recommended one to me where the capsules can be opened and sprinkled on food. They also told me any chewable supplements are OK and don't have to be crushed as long as I chew them very well first; just not the "gummy" kind, since they aren't complete.

As far as other meds go, if they are uncoated the easiest way to crush them is in a bowl with the back of a spoon.

I've been using small amounts of applesauce. :-)

I found the best way was to sprinkle the crushed pill on a few spoonfuls of cream of chicken Soup. The salty of the soup takes most of the bitter nasty bite of the crushed pill away.

Thx so much for this advice. I've tried them all and this was the best. I smashed mines with a small pot or pan then fine chop with a knife, put it in a medicine cup, mix in the soup and took a shot.

I love this site. What ever you are going through someone on here has too. Love it.

Walgreen's has a pill crusher for maybe $6. Put pills in, screw in crusher and voila! I put my in sugar-free Jello that was made with unjury Protein powder. Once I went to soft foods, I abandoned the crushing and started taking small pills or caplets without crushing.

5 months out I still can't take the really large horse pills and I miss my Alive Vitamins. I found a small capsule for a multi Vitamin. Right now I am taking Bariatric Advantage capsules -- 6 a day. But I see Whole Foods carries a Multi in Mini-tabs. 3 a day.

I take 2 flintstones for daily Vitamin. However I have 1 med that tastes like Tide Laundry detergent! The only way I can get it down is with a teaspoon of no sugar added frozen ice cream. I know that's cheating, but my med is a must have. My regular doc said go ahead.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
