Oh. My. Goodness!

Recommended Posts

WOW!!! I'm not sure where to begin. I have always struggled with my weight, oh, I could lose10 pounds but they always returned with at least 10 or more friends. In August of this year, I was at my largest, we took a trip to Florida with the kids, my seat belt on the plane barely fit but I was too proud to ask for an extender, all I wanted to do was sleep, had no energy, just laid around. I have been a nurse for 12 years and have been Certified in Wound Care for 5 years now and I found myself diagnosing obese folks with leg ulcers from vein problems, lymphedema issues from obesity, and oxygen dependent in the wheelchairs in the airports and even around the pool on this trip. I had the realization, "this is the road I am on, this will be me in just a few years." I knew I HAD to do something. My little sister had the sleeve done in March, I was behind her 100%, she has had amazing results but never once did she push me to do anything. Needless to say I think she was in tears when I called and told her what I was ready to do. I talked to my husband of 15 years and my 17 year old son, they are very supportive of me, they want me healthy, and SO DO I!!! I made my appointment through a friend that had been encouraging me, as she had hers done last November. I had my initial visit, went through the classes, I had my psych consult, and the had to wait until my consult. Insurance had already been approved, just needed my surgeon visit. I had it yesterday and I got my call today!!!!!!! My surgery is MONDAY!!!!!! November 4th!!!!!! I am in shock! I start my clears in the morning for 3 days, I check in at the hospital on Monday at 12:00pm. I am so thankful for a brave little sister that is hard headed and has always done things her way, she has blazed the trail for me, I am proud to say I am following in her tracks. I love you CSH and am so proud of you!!!!!!! This is my first post! I have been a "creeper" for a couple of months now on VST. I just want to say thank you to those of you who have confirmed my decision from your posts and comments to posts. I am in the Denver area and am having surgery at St Joes. I look forward to filling you in on the next few days!!!!!!!

Goldilox, congratulations on your decision for the sleeve, upcoming surgery, and welcome to VST. I had my sleeve surgery last Friday, 10/25, and have had no problems at all.

Good luck. I'm sure you will do great and it sounds like you have a wonder support system with your family.

Well, I did it!!!! Monday afternoon, just my husband and I at the hospital. Had a good night Monday night, tolerating my liquids fine. I was able to come home yesterday afternoon, only 24 hours after my surgery. I feel good, just sore and trying to get my fluids in. Thanks for your kind words of encouragement.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
