Because Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo gets no respect...and rightfully so!

Just paying homage to horrific movies of my childhood. :)

Enjoy this thread, great topic and even better responses. Just shows the diversity on this site and the commonality amongst so many striving to change their lives.

CTRose1160 - CTR - my daughters initials Rose is her middle name, 1160 - my employee number.

I am not that creative with this, however; I have fully enjoyed reading everyone's responses!

I had to make major changes in my life -- marriage and body. When my fearful self said I'd never do it, my courageous self said, "Just watch me!"

I really enjoy reading this thread, fun and interesting.

Mine, I just love Tinkerbell when I was little, I drew her everywhere I could and I grew up loving all fairy tales. Hoping that my sleeve will have a happy ending like a fairy tale. ;-)

Definitely a fun read! I just picked the easiest screen name I could think of and remember, hence JerseyGirlShirl. Pretty obvious: my name is Shirley, I'm from Jersey, and last time I checked, I'm a girl lol.

And to join in on the fun.... my stripper name is Sandy Maple, which sounds like grainy pancake syrup!

Well after trying to get a name so many were taken, after a few trials I looked at my bird and tried Bellabill...it worked! We thought our cockatiel was a girl but found out years later it's a boy. Original name was Bella and my daughter insisted we call him Bill so we decided Bellabill is the name. Nothing serious....

my given name is vicki, which is hard for most children to say...when my best friend's son started talking he called me kiki...around the same time i met my future husband and he started calling me kiki bear...eventually he dropped the "bear"...now he just calls me kiki and has since we were married in 2004 :)

Good thread. My need to lose the weight is due to mobility issues. I have severe arthritis in both knees and had to lose around 70 lbs before getting them replaced. Got to that goal about six months after being banded but found out I needed both hips replaced first. Had that done five weeks ago and am currently recuperating. My fervent hope is to go walking any time and anywhere. For those of us with terrible chronic pain, walking around without pain is a huge motivator. I'm already doing a lot better and am grateful to the band for helping me get this far.

Just saw this thread again today and thought I'd post an update as my response above is nearly a year old. For those who are not aware, I'm just days away from my one year anniversary on the hip replacement surgery, down 140+ lbs. and walking just fine thank you.

Heading to Myrtle Beach with my kids and granddaughter in a few days and she and I have plans to walk the beach to look for awesome shells. Never could have done that pre-band. Oh...and get this. May be heading to China over Christmas with my brother and niece to visit my SIL who is working there for a year. China was always on my bucket list and there were plenty of times I thought I'd never make it as heavy and immobile as I used to be. If the timing works out and I do get over there, I'll be posting so many pics that you guys will be begging me to stop..lol! I can't say enough what a miracle this lapband has been for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
