When did you have an alcoholic beverage?

Recommended Posts

HI! I am going to a reception this weekend and am wanting to have a glass of wine or non-carbonated alcoholic beverage. I feel great, am losing but unsure of trying this. I am almost 2 months post op. Thoughts?.......Thanks!

4+ months post op I went to my sisters wedding anniversary party. i had a teeny tiny glass of red wine and couldn't finish it - hurt my tummy. After that, I abstained until I got to goal. I always had this visual in the first months post op is to treat your sleeve like a new born baby, gently.... slowly introducing new experiences. Consider having one sip and calling it good, you will have lots of opportunities when you get to goal to enjoy the occasional drink.

Surgery was 5/22 and on July 4 I had just a couple sips of white wine. It was ok.

<shrug> I didnt feel motivated to drink the whole thing. Pre surgery I would have had several glasses!

I had 3/4 shot of Gentleman Jack Daniels mixed with about an oz. of Water last weekend (6 weeks postoperative). Be careful! It hits hard and fast. I think if I had another I would have been totally trashed for awhile.

Have fun at the wedding. I suggest sampling a small drink or 2 tonight so you know how your body reacts. Im not one for trying new things in public though.

My diet DOES allow alcohol at 6 weeks, but nothing carbonated for another month.

I think everyone is a bit different. I can drink a 5 oz glass of wine over an hour, no problems. I'm at 12 weeks.

I was maybe 3 weeks out, other than high liquid calories my doc didn't have any restrictions on it. Yes, it does hit me much harder than before though !!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
