Newly banded March 1, 2007

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone

I have been a member for a while I felt like this would be a good time to say hello to everyone.

I was banded March 1, 2007 in Chicago. It was not as bad as I though it would be. I am happy and getting around fine and sticking to all of my doctors instructions well.

I feel really optimistic and hopeful and want to thank all of the people who post on these kinds of sites, because you all have been more of a support to me than you can ever imagine. I say this because the highs and lows of this journey, we all share in them and hearing both variation gives me strength. The lows lets me know I am not alone and the high gives me a since of hope.

But with that being said, I am on the way on my weight loss journey wish me luck, and we can do this together and hopefully others will get strength to live there dreams whatever they may be.

Congratulations on your banding! How are you feeling? I'm glad you decided to post at last. I also lurked a long while before posting. It was the information I got from this site that made me decide to go for it.

I'm sure there's a March bandster's thread somewhere here that you may want to hook up with.

Keep posting!

Welcome!!!

Congratulations on having a successful surgery. I was raised in Chicago, but I currently live in Houston. Who did your surgery?

I have been banded for about a month, and it's the best decision I could have ever made. I hope that this site provides you with as much support as it has offered me.

I was banded by Dr. Steven Bonomo @ Mercy Hospital in Chicago. I feel really good, I actually have been able to sleep on my sides, and lay on my stomach for a little while. I have been walking a lot to. I feel so full of hope!!!:)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
