Uncomfortable feeling

Recommended Posts

I am 1 week post op and started in full liquids I had the chunky Soup vegetable only (very soft) n I'm sure I ate it or swallowed it too fast because now I have this uncomfortable feeling that the food is stuck in my throat n I need to throw up or make it go down...problem is I can't throw up, I tried to make myself throw it up but all I get is burping. Help what can help for this feeling to go away??!!

Just wait. You are still in the acute healing. I suggest that even very soft chunky Soup is too much. Puree the soup and see if this helps. You WILL be able to progress to chunky Soups but it might be a month or so.

In the first few months post op all my Soups were creamed lowfat soups & had to be strained. Every surgeon is different. However, I was never uncomfortable & enjoyed the soups. I hope you feel better soon. Ps this is a work in progress. You will figure out what works for you! Best Wishes Tina

this happened to me with Soup too in the full liquid stage. It was horrible and felt like I had swallowed a rock that was just sitting there at the top of my stomach/throat. It was painful and just plain sucky. I think it took about 2 hours of me walking around and not drinking anything else for it to go away. But lesson learned, I made sure I paid attention to everything I swallowed after that! and chewed my soup LOL I really hope you feel better by now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
