How have your tastes changed?

Recommended Posts

I'm still preop. Surgery is on Tuesday. But I've heard a lot of people say their tastes have changed since being sleeved. I thought about this tonight as I had a Peanut Butter twix with a glass of milk. I am hoping and praying my very sweet tooth goes away.

So does anyone have an experience they'd care to share? Did you become lactose intolerant or were you a major sugar fiend and find your tummy doesn't handle sweets well? Or did you love potato chips and end up that even the smell of Lays makes you queasy? And please please please tell me that one of you was a Starbucks addict and after being sleeved, you can't even hear the words,"triple grande iced salted caramel mocha, 2 pumps mocha, no whip" without throwing up in your mouth a little?!?

Thank you!!

I have seen many folks say that their tastes changed, but mine have not. So far, I haven't come across any food I can't tolerate, or any food that I liked preop that isn't good to me now. What HAS changed is my ability, or my willingness, to make different choices now. I genuinely enjoy the high Protein, low(er) carb foods that I eat every day. I have had a few chips here & there, a cookie or two occasionally, and shared one fabulous restaurant dessert with the hubs on our anniversary last month. The difference is I'm able to be satisfied with just a little & not need or want more. We don't all have the same experience, of course, this is just mine. Good luck to you!

I can't handle sweet like I used to. I've been lucky and haven't experienced any nausea, but I get a tummy ache from too much sweet. Ice cream is too much for me now.

I thought the Protein Shakes were bland before surgery but after surgery they are too sweet...

It's takes getting used to. I also don't like mashed potatoes anymore, and they were my favorite before!

I am unsure, because I am very strict with myself regarding eating. I am uncomfortable experimenting with "goodies", sweet or salty.

But I agree with Southernsoul, just Tuesday I was excited (and I mean it) to cook Swill Chard and roasted brussel sprouts.

Yes my tastes changed.... my desires changed as well.. I have told myself there is nothing I can't have. With that in mind.. there are many things I no longer want. I was addicted to fried foods pre op. Now that thought of a FF makes my stomach turn. I can not handle fried foods they make me nauseated. Sweets I enjoy but only a few bites and I am done. I have an occasional cookie but after one I am satisfied. This might sound gross to some but I have really enjoyed SF chocolate pudding with almond butter in it. When I crave sweets that is what I have as a snack. The almond butter adds Protein to the snack. I do my best to have protien with every meal or snack. That seems to be my biggest challenge.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
