Vitamin Expert Needed! I am lost.

Recommended Posts

Hello!

Not being sleeved until Feb 2014 but gathering my info and product slowly but surely.

The multi Vitamin lingo is over my head and so is comparing vitamin labels/content.

Are the veterans here for or against:

Special bariatric Vitamins?

Tks! W

I personally just took Centrum chewables post-op. Now I take a general Mens Health MVI and Krill Oil with 1000 IU of Vit.D. I just had labs taken on 10/25 and all my values are normal. I had surgery Jan 7th 2013 and my current weight loss is 140lbs. You should def. do your own research tho. Good luck. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I've done so much research...me arse is flat!

Would love it if a nurse could weigh in.

My doctor said to take a good Multivitamin, 1000mg Calcium citrate, and sublingual B12 daily. No special instructions. He offered me Bariatric Advantage Vitamins, but his heart wasn't really into it. :-P

These are the ones that I take: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040MHAUM/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

At my three month follow up, my Iron, B-12 and Niacin were low on the children's chewable, but one month later on these Vitamins, I was back to normal. I know there are hundreds of different Vitamins out there and it is hard to pick! I tried three different kinds until I found one that didn't make me too nauseous and gave me energy.

Oh William! Ya got me!!! haha

I'm in BC and at first I could only find children's chewable, even @ Costco:(

Now found Centrum and Jamison chewable at London Drugs so I'm good now.

Thanks all, decision made.

I used special bariatric Vitamins for the first three months, then began taking "normal" vitamins thereafter. If there is an issue, it will be apparent on your follow up lab work, and you can correct it. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just one nurse's advice. : )

Thanks Beth!

North of the border we just don't have near as much readily available and ordering from the US can really suck.Especially if one orders the wrong thing. All good now.

However, I did notice the RDA is 200% you all following that guideline?

RDA of what? Everything? Generally that would be a waste, but since no one knows for sure how cutting out 80 percent of our stomachs affects absorption, it seems more reasonable to overshoot our goals.

I have seen mention of 200% RDA in several places (one @ breakie and one @ lunch).

Anyone taking this dose?

Also 1000 mg calcium citrate. chewable or caps or does it matter?

Tks W.

Bariatric Advantage chewables literally made me puke yellow green stuff one day.... I take New Chapter everymans one daily multi and love them. They are whole food Vitamins and the price is very reasonable on Amazon.

My tests came back all normal couple months ago in my blood work I'm 16 months out

Oh I should add I take a flaxseed oil pill and Omega 3 a day along with 2 B12 chewables for an energy boost before workouts

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
