This is going to be my saddest birthday ever

Recommended Posts

Tomorrows a milestone birthday for me but can't Celebrate like I typically would because im still recovering from surgery and am on the gross Protein shake/soup phase and I think I'll have a meltdown if I go out and see people eating yummy food. Also my incisions are still sore so have been wearing baggy clothes and working from home.

I'm grateful to have had he surgery and hopefully next year i will be at the lowest weight ever and can have a birthday blowout in a sexy dress and heels. Le sigh!

Why not enjoy your B'day??? Here's something to think about. Celebrate and enjoy whilst not placing food on a pedistal??? Food is fun, but we are all learning to have a more normal relationship with the food we need to live. There is so much more to life than food, and Happy Birthday!!!

I had my surgery on my husbands and I anniversary and normally we dine and wine the night away...nope not this year and I was almost tempted not to have the surgery that was scheduled a few days before my anniversary just so we can wine and dine! I really had to snap out of it! I told myself this is how bad it is for me that I would reschedule my surgery so I can wine and dine! I said I can do this! My husband and I did other things other than go out to eAt. We have to learn to have a good time without food! I did some major Soup searching my first 2 months.

You'll get through this. It's your birthday go have fun but something that doesn't involve food. At first it's hard to come up with things but eventually it will change well at least it did for me.

Happy birthday!!!

Many blessings to you and congrats on the surgery!

Well sounds like you are still very early out from surgery? I suggest enjoying the day without going out? (Because I remember wearing the baggy clothes and NOT feeling like seeing sunlight for awhile lol.) Anyways, try and think of a fun thing to do (that doesn't involve eating) as soon as you are feeling up to it (go bowling with some friends, find a little trip you can take that you've always meant to visit, go to the mall and check out some smaller sized outfits) or start planning a vacation for when you've lost all your weight or spend the day making a bucket list. Happy Birthday and consider your sleeve the best present you could have given yourself :)

I was a day post op and still hospitalised on my birthday this year. My surgeon came in that morning to check on me... I thanked him over and over and over (morphine) for the BEST birthday present. My family visited me and brought balloons, flowers and my cards!! I'll never forget my 33rd birthday and I'm looking even more forward to my 34th!! Cheer up Hun, life could be A LOT worse!!

Go do something fun that doesn't involve food! Putt putt golf, laser tag, bowling, hike in the woods, roller skating - something active and FUN!

As for the boring shakes and yucky Soups phase - take a look at this - it might help you get through :-)

my first wedding anniversary was four days before my surgery when i was on the pre-op diet. i was so mad that my husband couldn't take me out to dinner because i knew i would (most likely) cheat! i was so miserable until my mom suggested we do something fun to recreate something we did on our honeymoon that didn't involve food (we went to the San Diego zoo, walked around the grand canyon). we settled on doing a spa day like we had done one of the days we were in arizona. we got massages and i got a mani/pedi. so it still felt special, but we left food out of it! it's possible! happy birthday! :D

My birthday was eleven days after my surgery last year. My best friend tried to make it festive by making me my "birthday" Protein Shake, followed by my "birthday" lovenox…you get the picture. What we decided upon was that I got a do-over. I could pick a date in the future when I felt better, and my loved ones would Celebrate my birthday then. I picked a date about three months after my surgery.

So here we are almost a year later, and I am over 100 pounds lighter. It was so worth it in the long run! And this birthday will be that much sweeter and more enjoyable as a result! Focus on the long game with this one - it will be so worth it for you too!

My birthday is tomorrow also. I have to work but my husband is taking me to Yosemite for the weekend. We are doing a zip-line in the park one day and then a spa day the next. The zip line is something I would have never done before surgery! Enjoy yourself in whatever you choose to do and happy birthday

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
