Just an observation- Governer Christie

Recommended Posts

Watching the news coverage of Hurricane Sandy today I noticed that Governer Christie had not lost all that much weight. He had the lap band in Feb 2013. No judgement here. Just something I noticed

No he hasn't at all and he claims he has no health problems which I don't buy. I was watching something and a doctor had said in his opinion he needs to lose AT LEAST 200 lbs which he wont be bale to do via the lap band. Although if he hasn't had virtually any success with the lap band who knows if he'd be able to adhere to the dietary restrictions of a vertical sleeve.

Although he still has a ways to go I thought he looked pretty good this morning on TV.

Agree that the band seemed like an odd choice for someone of his size, however.

I wonder how much he's lost vs how much he needs to lose?

My mom only lost about 60 lbs with her band - which is why she revised to the sleeve.

I agree with if he is not as successful with the band he may have the same struggle with the sleeve. There is a woman in my WLS group who had band and has lost 125+ over 2 yrs and looks great but she follows her rules and obviously hasn't had any complications. ;-)

I was thinking the same thing. He did look like he had lost a little but not as much as he should have. Just my observation and opinion. I think I would have made a different choice.........oh yeah I did! :)

I think I read somewhere that recovery time was a big factor for his choice.

I fully agree on both points!

I think he's lost more than we can tell. A good ole before and after picture would be helpful ;)

This picture definitely shows weight loss and he does look better. Still would have chosen the sleeve though! :)

Wow, he has lost a good amount of weight. Good on him! Thanks for the side-by-side look-see.

Yeah. Does look like he lost more now that it is side by side. Standing next to shaq probably did not help matters

That's funny living in NJ and seeing him at a conference this past summer every one including me thought he looked the same. But side by side helps. Someone should have offered him the sleeve.

My thought was that he could hope to keep the band a secret but there was no way he could get either the sleeve or bypass and keep that a secret. it is hard on folks in the spotlight. but now that it is known he can get a revision. (if he wants it). hard to believe he doesn't have joint pain, although he is younger than me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
