PB, Stomach Swell confused

Recommended Posts

hi guys, I am just now adjusting to my second fill. I really am having a hard time with learning to chew my darn food.

It seems like Im getting that burning uncomfortable feeling with EVERY MEAL.

i dont know if that means im too tight, because it eventually does pass through - but then if thats the case, what is FULL?

example.. it seems like if i do chew things up, i can eat as much as i want because its going through... if i dont chew things well, then i get the burning action and feel like i should stop eating.

this is so bizarre. I dont think ive ever felt my top pouch feel full, but i do get that that golf ball! I can still eat WAY too much.. however, still am capable of getting golf balls.. BIZARRE

last night, i was starving and decided to eat a piece of deli turkey, it got stuck, and i kept spitting and spitting and spitting, and it was so uncomfortable. this was lasting for an hour. I had to make myself PB..

it doesnt happen naturally for me, i can just be uncomfortable for hours.

so then, i kinda gagged and got a bit of froth to come up, still it doesnt go down.

so then... i drank some Water and it finally went down.. whew, so then later.. my esophogas felt soo swollen. i mean aggitated.

im really trying to figure out.. what is NORMAL.

does the band work like this: you have to chew chew chew so you dont get pain, and then you just tired of chewing and stop eating because eating is not pleasurable?

or does it work like this: you chew well, and eventually get a full feeling and then stop no golfballs.

Well, I can honestly say that I have very rarely(maybe twice?) gotten that golf ball feeling. I can pretty much eat normally without any problems. Even right after a fill, I don't really have to chew any more, or take much smaller bites, but I don't know if that is normal either. I have never pb'd==thank God! What has gotten stuck has passed after a few minutes, and that was that. It doesn't really sound normal to me that you are having so much trouble thoug--have you talked to your surgeon about it? That would be the first step, I think. Good luck!

The real question is are you eating too soon after your fill? Or, are you attemping your pre-fill diet too soon. liquids should be all you consume for at least 3 days. Although everyone is different - you should start with liquids, then on to Soups, etc..

I find that I am alot tighter in the day than in the evening.

Hope this helps,

A PB is a productive burp. This means you are regurgitating the overload of your pouch and esophagus. In a PB the food hasn't entered through the band into the lower stomach so it really isn't digested very much, just mixed with a lot of saliva from your mouth and esophagus. PB's do require the reverse motion of the stomach and esophagus hence are not very good for the continued correct positioning of the band.:(

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
