What did you feel when you awoke from surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was trying to tell the nurse something, but she couldn't understand me. It was weird, I could hear them talking, but I couldn't move or talk. I was thinking oh no I can hear them and feel them touching me! I must not be sedated, but the surgery was already over. I don't remember feeling pain or anything.

Be Blessed!

I am almost 100% certain that Dr. Ortiz doesn't charge extra for hernia repair - just ask his staff/him to be sure. Two of my 'band sisters' had hernia repairs when we had surgery and I don't remember either of them saying they were charged.

When some of you mentioned back pain, well, that really bothers me because I have a bad back and when most surgeons do the surgery with your legs apart so they can get between them, I hope they don't overstretch because I don't want to be in so much pain from my back and hips cuz they are bad also with arthritis.

Every once in a while on here i read about this myth that the doctor goes in between your legs for this surgery. He doesn't. The table is wicked skinny and the doctors and nurses stand on the side of the table. Unless you are having a GYN surgery they do not need to spread your legs or stand in bewteen your legs.

I was prepared for the fact that the surgeon stands between your legs. In the patient handbook that his office gives you prior to surgery, the positioning was described as nearly everything else one could expect pre, intra, and post-op.

I woke up after banking and was told to get out of bed and start walking. I took about 5 minutes to feel like it was ok to walk without help. By 30 min. I was moving about very well and had mild discomfort. Becuse I was the last band opperation of the day I stayed the night. I walked a lot that night. I was not pleased that the most of the others who were banded had gone back to the hotel and I stayed in the hospital. The next morning when I woke up I went back to walking. I greeted the new people who were getting banded that day. By mid-morning I was on my way back to the hotel. Less that 24 hours after banding several of us who had been banded the day before rented a van and toured the city, went to the beach and walked around. That night, 24 plus hours after banding I was walking the streets of Mexico pushing my mother-in-laws wheel chair touring on foot. We stayed out untill after midnight. I took only one pain pill the whole time. I was not smiling and dancing but the Doctor said that the more I walked the better. It worked for me.

The worst part for me was the dry mouth. Ifelt like i could'nt swollow. I also felt alittle nasia, but i did inform them before that i got nasious. They took care of it very quickly, to throw up would have killed. Then had some gas pains in the left sholder. Not too bad, next day was a little better. Dont be scared it was my first time to be put under and my fear was that i would feel the tube in my throat, but didn't remember any of that part. My surgery was just yesterday ,Im feeling fine just a little sore in the port area.Good luck with your big day.

I remember the nurses helping me out of the wheelchair and onto a recliner. I could feel my legs and arms shaking violently. I heard one of the nurses say that I was cold, and they started layering warm sheets over my body and covering my head with warm sheets too. I also vomited from the nausea. I had the worst taste in my mouth, and my throat hurt. The first day of recovery was the worst, but I was up and walking about after three hours of sleeping, with 15 minute intervals of sipping 30 cc of Water.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
