Hard to drink all my protein shakes due to my schedule

Recommended Posts

Good Morning Everyone,

I am on day 5 with my pre op diet. I am actually doing alot better than the first 3 days of the diet.

Just a quick question my doctor has me drinking 4 Protein Shakes in a day with 2 fruits and a dinner that contained 4 ounces of chicken, tuna fish etc and 2 cups of lettuce and 1 cup of veggies.

I wake up a 330am to be at work for 5am my first Protein is at 530am. My concern is that I cant fit in my 4th Protein shake. What the heck now I cant eat my entire dinner because I am already full. And my 4th protein is about 2.5 hours after my dinner.

Im struggling with my 3rd Protein Shake as it is. Will this be a problem. I am trying my best but is hard.

I would try to follow your doctor's diet as closely as possible, but if you are getting in 3 Protein shakes a day, that is pretty good. How many grams of Protein do they each have? Could you try to have one of the shakes when you first wake up? Also, have you tried to have the protein in different ways, like mixing a chocolate protein shake with leftover coffee, a little almond milk, and pouring it over ice? Sometimes they are easier to drink if they are thinned out.

It sounds like you are doing well...keep up the great work.

Is not that is nasty because I am drinking unjury and is great. But by the time is for my 4th Protein shake I am ready for bed.

Should I guzzle it down before bed?

That's alot of food compared to many of us.

Mine, for instance is 2 shakes and the lettuce and lean Protein salad plus if absolutely nessasary drink a third shake. I would talk to doc or coordinator. Ask them if u can cut back. That's alot!!!! I could barely do the three plus salad. I've lost a lb a day on pre op diet. Are u losing any weight on yours? Not that that is the intention but it's a nice side effect ;-)

And I don't like the idea of guzzling anything down before bed. It just sits there! The point of food is energy to sustain you through the day. I would not wanna force feed myself. We're supposed to be breaking bad habits and replacing with healthy ones. Call the Doc!

honestly i would say adjust the pre op diet to how you feel. if you feel full then go with that. i am supposed to be drinking 6 shakes a day and i can have broth, sf stuff, and certain veggies. i really cant afford to have 6 shakes a day unfortuantely so i get about 3 sometimes 4 and maybe eat a Tomato or a can of spinach and im usually full. i managed to lose 9lbs and feel pretty good about that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
