200lbs to Lose Starting Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and my surgery will be on November 12th. I am currently 411 and would like to get down to 210. I am not nervous about the surgery, but I am a little apprehensive about the major lifestyle changes. I am getting great support from my wife and kids, and they are my inspiration to do well. I am confident all will be good and I look forward to being able to participate in more fun activities with my kids (like riding roller coasters). Wish me well.

You will do great. Follow the instructions and stick to your program. It is possible. You have a great support system and that will help. Exercise as often as you can.

Yes, it is a lifestyle change but it is doable and you may even find that you prefer it. I know I did. I can't imaging eating the way I did previously and a blood pressure of 95/57 keeps me sticking with it. As does smaller clothes in fun new styles.

I no longer desire the processed junk I used to eat and I feel very good and strong after working out, so that keeps me on task.

Good luck to you. :)

Congratulations and welcome! You are displaying considerable courage and commitment to improving your overall health and living longer!

I cannot stress to highly the importance of your commitment to a pre-op diet. I dieted for two (2) weeks before my 9/3 surgery and attribute my textbook surgery and uneventful/successful recovery to my pre-op dieting. My liver had shrunk, making for an easy operation, and I completely avoided the nausea, vomiting, "gas" pains. Recovering from the surgery was a breeze and my weight loss has been slow and consistent without stalls.

Please don't hesitate to ask your questions, express your concerns, and share your victories! We are all walking the same path - the only difference is when we first started our individual walks.

Welcome and come back often. BB

Congrats. I'm sure you'll do great. Support system is very important. Like nsquared said I don't really have any desire for the processed foods at all. Though I have developed kind of an addiction to cottage cheese.< /p>

It's a very exciting journey! I'm 2 years out, I've lost 215 pounds, and it was the best, most challenging, most stressful, most exciting, most wonderful thing I have ever done. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
