rredrruby87 27 Posted October 28, 2013 Ive read that if you have a "lower" BMI that you wont be as successful? Anyone with a lower BMI that would care to share your weight loss progress? Im short too idk if that makes a difference but Im 5'3" with a bmi of 37...I want to lose about 90lbs.
sookiee 13 Posted October 28, 2013 I've currently got a BMI in the 35 range after pre-op dieting (started in 37 range). I haven't heard this, but would also be interested to know if that could be an issue.

Carlotta 57 Posted October 28, 2013 I think wanting to lose 60' , 70 to 80 pounds is no lightweight. I see that u can be successful. Maybe not as fast as someone tht has to lose 100 plus. Br u can still get successful by changing your habits and using the surgery as a tool.
ribearty 544 Posted October 28, 2013 I was a BMI of 35 and post-op 3 days now. My doctor told me he expects me to better than average due to the lower BMI. 3 rredrruby87, brennalynn84 and terri82much reacted to this

Right its no lightweight at all i cant even imagine what 90lbs of fat would look like next to me! thats why i put "lower" in quotes...but i just happened to be researching and one doctors site had pros and cons listed and being on a lower end of high bmi makes your process harder. didnt know how true it was. but like you said it makes sense if you really change your habits and all then i dont know y i couldnt still be successful

terri82much 80 Posted October 28, 2013 New and Improved! Are you going to go to Mexico if you are doing self pay? My surgery is $6,500 plus roughly $1,000 for my travel costs. 1 rredrruby87 reacted to this
rredrruby87 27 Posted October 28, 2013 Yes I will be going to Mexico...Most likely with Dr. Illan I just bought a new car which im kicking myself over...if i didnt i prob would choose Dr Ortiz just because he has a sort of celebrity status i guess you could say and its sort of like an extra assurance. but Ive read great things about Dr. Illan and the surgery is 4,500 plus your airfare, so im comfortable with my choice. now i hope i can find cheap airfare!! Im short too idk if that makes a difference but Im 5'3" with a bmi of 37...I want to lose about 90lbs. IMHO it isn't that you won't be as successful, you just won't lose as fast. For example, I started out with BMI 36, and I average 2 lbs. a week, which from what I've seen on here is well within normal for low BMI folks. That vs. people with BMI of 40+ who can lose 30 lbs. a month or 100 lbs. in 6 months (that still blows me away).

stefaniwg 172 Posted October 28, 2013 I was sleeved 5 months ago at 185, bmi 34, 5'2. Today I weigh 144 bmi 25ish. So I have lost 41 lbs in 5 months. I losing much slower than others that were sleeved around the same time as me but I'm ok with that. If it takes me a year to get to goal in ok with that. If I don't lose another pound on ok with that too because I have never looked and felt as good as I do now in over 10 years!! Good luck to all of those with upcoming surgeries. 2 dbjjb and rredrruby87 reacted to this
