I used to avoid posting much on VST because I thought too many of the people were mean. The exception was the band to sleeve forum where I found much inspiration.

After awhile I started noticing people werent mean, it was more that my tender heart couldnt take some of the more "in your face" style people here. Over time as I became confident and less emotionally fragile I realized that I learned a lot more on VST and now seldom read/post on the "gentler" forum.

I apologiZe if i hurt feelings but I am 2 years into this, researched it long before that and was well educated by a center of excellence team and have paid attention to trends of forum posters who gets to goal and who doesnt. Guess what - the ones who follow the silly rules seem to be on to something. I do agree that misinfo abounds so pick a good surgeon with a great track record and follow his/her advice.

I'm laughing at myself. I Amos glad I saw this post! I missed my 10 month check up because I kind of stopped losing weight. It's embarrassing that I let my old habits creep back. But today I made the appointment' date=' it's been 1 yr and only down 55 pounds. I will not give in to the food . It's is ruining my spirit and will. Help!!! I would love some suggestions from 2012 sleevers![/quote']

Mine was Dec 2011...its been quite a jouney to goal. Most important thing to know is its not too late. Go back to basics, get yourself back to your NUT and keep asking for advice.

Small portions, eat to absence of hunger, full is not the goal

High Protein, watch the junky slider food carbs. seriously 80-100g of dense Protein daily. Consider tracking carefully and/or abstinance from trigger foods.

Drink lots of Water but seperate from food

Get active, exercise and move

Dont get discouraged keep working it

Nope I just knew that sone people would get pissy hence the riot title... everytime I post anything I get those people who have to tell me I'm doing something wrong. Even coming for advice on this page people act all holier than thou..

Sounds to me like you're just itching for a fight.

Follow your doctor's advice or don't. Take some of the advice here or don't. Make up your own rules along the way if you wish. Post here, read here, incite a "riot" here or discuss, debate, converse civilly - it's all up to you. This is YOUR journey and you are the boss of you. No one can make you feel bad but YOU but that said, only YOU can choose the words you are throwing out here to represent who you are.

Think about that along the way. Good luck to you. I wish you much success.

I question everything because some things taught to me happened and some things different I didn't get depressed I don't have severe pain and I don't have hunger. What I do have is a bad taste in my mouth and most foods taste terrible. I do use a straw which isn't advised but its the only way I don't gurgle and choke so hey whatever do what feels good to your body and don't be hard on yourself or others we need to enjoy our new lives and thank God we had the courage to do it

Not sure how far out you are but that tastes bad side effect can be a real help getting over food cravings. I went through it too and I had to think about eating as mire like a prescription I had to take as it wasnt pleasurable. I also think it is generally temporary, was for me.

Nearly 2 years out and only two issues with how things taste remain. 1. Water needs an additive like piece of lime as it tastes metallic plain

2. Spicy foods are just way too hot on my tongue now

I have a ton of support in real life. I find it sad thay some people feel the need to be rude to someone they have never net because of their opinion or that there drs rules are different.

I question things I read and I adk the dr and get told that those rules only apply to bypass patients... I was just saying what I was going through.

If my title wasnt up to par for all of you I am so sorry.. it was a joke.

I totally understand what your going through, My very first post on this site ever was last week and it went sideways real fast! My doctor is super conservative, he said no caffeine or carbs..EVER.. I follow all the rules except those. There is nothing wrong with a cup of coffee once a week or a turkey sandwich on low carb wheat bread. So yes I take what my doctor says seriously but at the same time I use common sense too, whole grains are good for us, we need the fiber! haha so all things in moderation :)

Had to chime in again. Some of the newer people on this site choose not to post because the vets are a bit abrasive under the veil of being or trying to be sarcastically funny with one another. They really crack themselves up don't they? I've attributed it to the hormone shift once you get closer to your goal weight. We will be there one day as well. What I will do if I'm still posting on this site in one to two years is be mindful of where I was at that point in time and if I can't control myself and feel the need to be pushy with people on a support site is find something else productive to do with my time and log off. Or maybe start a private group somewhere else where I dont have to try to resist being overly aggressive with nervous preop/freshly postop fat people. There's a difference between tough love and being snide, but just like in our real lives when we have to deal with dumb a@ comments- some people just don't know any better. {)i(} Sent from my iPhone using VST {)i(}

Well something to consider,

There is the huge amount of support that is available on this site..

The op herself came here and started a thread about her personal life and tragedies and how people in her personal life were tired of it and unsupportive..

I, along with a LOT of others took the time to write thoughtful responses and a continuing dialogue with her.

At some point the op decided to start posting combative type posts. Not sure why? But a combative post will 9 times out of 10 get combative posts back.

Oh! And good luck on starting back to work.

Being a Quaker makes me desire consensus. A laudable goal, though not often reached. I feel that we can all find the helpfulness in each person's struggle, though some may wish to be more gentle with the advice shared, and some may wish to look past the first impression to the helpfulness within.

Whoever we are in this battle, we are in this battle. And we are stronger together than we are apart.

Back to the thread:

... You must be aware that it is very common to substitute an addiction to alcohol for an addiction to food

... You are out of control and can regain some to all of your weight. Lots do... They rarely post here though, being busy with finding the next snack

... There appears to be a consensus that you need therapeutic help. No sin, but suggested when needed. We are not professionals

... And IMHO, this is a passionate thread because your behavior scares each of us. "there but for the grace of God go I"

Ok seriously this was not meant to be combative what so ever. I was simply stating that some people are very set in their ways and if anyone goes against that they can be negative.

I posted because my dr was saying so many things that I questioned from this site that it was hard to believe what I read. I was writing my personal feelings down about what my dr said as many on this site do.

I follow my drs rules I do what I am told and I learned a lot from this site.

Yes I posted that I had family problems and really appreciated everyone that resoonded. Didnt take it for granted. I explained myself and said sorry for the name of the thread I should have calles it something else.

I find it hard to believe that so many people got so mad about a thread titlle when all I did In my original post was state that some things are hard to read because my dr says that it isn't true doe sleeve patients. Maybe he is wrong maybe he isn't. I really couldn't tell you.

I never said I had a problem with alcohol I don't drink. My mom was an alcoholic all my childhood and far into my teen years.

I have made some mistakes and ate the wrong things and stopped losing but I decided to change my eating and I am losing at a good rate again.

I am a young woman who wrote one stupid thing on a SUPPORT forum so please forgive me if any of it sounded so rude that I needed to be reprimanded by you all.

I will go back to reading posts that I want and not saying much its not a big deal.

I feel you. I got called a hater cause I did not want to eat popcorn.

What I have learned thus far is that are journeys are different. And the rules are there to help us and the bottom line is we have to figure it out ourselves. What works and what doesn't can be different for different people. It is not exact science.

It is very emotional because no one wants to fail.

I learn constantly from this community, but I do understand where the OP is coming from on the issue of judgmental or hyper-preachy responses. For me, it helps to remember that the people who respond that way are largely trying to soothe their own anxieties and reinforce the rules that they themselves are grappling with. When one person is 'falling out of line,' they are reminded of how easy it is to do.

I remember seeing much worse when i was on *gag* Nutrisystem and frequenting their forums for support. Gosh, sometimes dieters behave like we're all in a cult. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
