Has anyone purchased the Big Book on Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone purchased this book I keep seeing being advertised on this site? If so, does it contain any good nutritional information?

I have the book. It is a very good resource on everything VSG. It does contain good nutritional information.

There are other good books with nutritional information. Check this thread:

Good reads thread

I bought it...it covers everything you would want to know. Honestly I had researched a lot before I bought it so it was all mostly redundant, but I was glad that I had read it. If anything it helped me be mentally ready for surgery because I felt like I was as prepared as possible knowledge-wise.

I bought an e-copy just before I had my surgery. I am only sorry I did not get it sooner. I would have benefitted from some of the things in the book had I known them while I prepared for surgery. I am very happy to have the e-version. Just over three months out from surgery I find I still go back to it as a reference. It is a very thorough book. It is also a quick read. I highly recommend it (even if I don't get a penny from doing so!).

That can happen even with great nutrition. It's a response to the stress your body undergoes with the surgery. Some do and some don't. Making sure you get in enough Protein is a big part of it, but even with that some people lose it.

I just read another book that is really good for nutrition and motivation, it's called "Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success" -- which I mainly ordered based on the title. Also written by a doc/surgeon, Dr. "V".

Recommended.

The "Big Book of VSG" is an excellent resource for everyone. It is actually written by Alex, founder of this website.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
