Butterthebean 8,146 Posted November 23, 2013 Ran 4 miles today....my first continuous run since surgery 8 weeks ago. Hallelujah. It felt good to get out on the road again with a straight up run. Plus I made my goal for the month. 61.2 miles total. I also joined a gym with a pool yesterday to start swimming. My goal is to swim 2 days a week in addition to my running so I can do triathlon next year. 2 Georgia and gamergirl reacted to this
gamergirl 4,610 Posted November 23, 2013 MTD: 35MTD:36.5 but I worked out like a mad woman. 2.5 hours of it, mainly upper body. Doing what, you ask me? Trying on clothes to clean out my closet. No I didn't make it up. True story. Like, my arms hurt! 2 Chelenka and TJL reacted to this

Fiddleman 4,376 Posted November 23, 2013 Dropped a back squat barbell on my neck 30 m ago. Did not bail properly. In urgent care getting checked out. Hope this is not the end of my fitness. Pretty painful in neck and back currently. I got a little too fast and made a mistake during the lifting part of a chipper workout.

Fiddleman 4,376 Posted November 23, 2013 oh...OUCH! I'm so sorry. Just got the xrays explained. No new truama. I just need to take some strong nsaid for the current discomfort. I did find out I have some pretty substantial arthritis in the spine. News to me (1st xray I have done in these areas), but does explain why my apex region and thoracic region are so stiff. There are many vertebrae fused together in both regions on the film . Any thoughts on how to fix this? I am not that old (38). I am going to follow up with a rhuematologist in the near future. I do know that 2 months of PT so far has helped my back feel better and more relaxed, especially after doing tspine roller exercises with light hand weights. 1 Butterthebean reacted to this

Do you have diminished cartilage? I guess this explains some of you back and neck issues all right. Quite a lot to absorb at once eh?
Chelenka 827 Posted November 23, 2013 Fiddleman: so sorry you got hurt but glad it isn't too serious. My orthopedist told me pretty much anyone over 30 has a lot of arthritis in their spine but maybe he was just trying to make me feel better. LOL! Anyway I've had a lot of PT for my lumbar spine and neck and it helps as long as you are diligent and patient. I think yoga is also very helpful. Staying strong, active and flexible is your best bet and you are doing all of that. Icing helps me too after working out to keep inflammation down. Hope you are feeling better soon. 1 Butterthebean reacted to this

I have arthritis of my spine too, found out a couple of months ago, and I'm younger than you (36)...I do have back issues at times, not enough to bother me though. erp 2,016 Posted November 23, 2013 Went out of town this week so only worked out 4 days instead of 5. I am however still working out with my trainer on Thanksgiving day next week. 1 gamergirl reacted to this

TJL 222 Posted November 23, 2013 Glad to hear that the Nsaids should take care of you, and that it wasn't any more serious than that. I have degenerative disc problems in my spine, but of course I'm older than you. keep up with the PT, that helped me a lot, and keep exercising but don't over-do it , at least that is what I was told. That being said, it's much better to keep moving, it will keep you flexible. Just got the xrays explained. No new truama. I just need to take some strong nsaid for the current discomfort.
