November fitness challenge

Recommended Posts

Hey fitness freaks....and wannabe freaks. Time for the November installment of the fitness challenge. To try to be more inclusive and get more participation, I'm going to open things up in a new way.

The point of this challenge is to set a goal for yourself for the month of November. A fitness goal which will be challenging.....slightly more than you know you can do, more than you did last month. The goal needs to be a concrete measurable goal. The goal can be miles run, walked, biked, swam, ellipted or paddled....or a combination of all of them. But it can also be a goal of hours of exercise. 30 hours of exercise in a month is a challenging goal for many people. It can also be a specific exercise if you prefer....like 3000 squats and 1000 push-ups. Whatever it is, make it challenging, not easy. As I always say, growth and comfort cannot coexist. You want to be slightly uncomfortable. The goal should challenge you...make you slightly nervous as to whether or not you can reach it. Then....GO FOR IT!

Introduce yourself and spell out your goal for the month. Then come back here everyday or as often as you can and update the group as to your current progress toward your goal. Whether or not you make your goal is not the point. The point is to push yourself just a little further than you thought you could go.

I'll start. I'm only 4 weeks post op from my TT so not back to 100% yet, but I anticipate getting stronger as the month goes on. So my goal for November is to walk/run 60 miles. That's double what I'm going to do this month, so a challenging goal. Wish me luck.

Please join in and get moving.

Hey Butter and all, I'll see your 60 and raise you 5. I didn't do well at all in October, so it's time to show up for myself. I can do 2 miles a day, walking or running. Thanks for setting up the challenge!

Good morning...I am the wanna be fitness freak. This month isn't even going to come close to 100 miles so I love your explanation of November. I'm Alana and my November goals will be 30 hours of exercise for the month and doing ab exercises at least 4Xs a week. Getting on the site everyday will also be a goal as I run really short on time during the week....so 3 goals for November. Thanks for starting this and allowing newcomers to be involved. A side note of victories for October .... I'm 4 months out from surgery and this is the first October that I can remember that candy has NOT been a daily indulgence. It has felt great to say "NO thank you" to whoever has offered candy this month and I haven't had ANY. I have discovered there is more to Halloween than candy and vampire rum punch :)

I'm in! I have yet to start exercise at 2 months , but it's time! It will be challenging as I have a conference to go to as well. I'm also going to commit to 60 miles of walking for the month. It's a big goal...but I'm going for it!

Hi - my name is Andy. I want to be able to successfully complete the following by the end of November ( during a single workout)

50 unbroken kipping pull-ups (at about 5 strict and 10 kipping)

50 nose to wall hand stand push-ups (I cannot do these yet due to lack of shoulder and overhead strength)

100 unbroken double unders (I cannot do these yet due to skill, good at 100 singles)

100 unbroken push-ups ( can do about 30 unbroken)

50 GHD sit-ups (can do this, but added as a way to round out the work out)

50 rebound box jumps (I am not able to do more than 2-3 at a time due to skill)

I will be practicing these all month in between planned workouts to move towards November goal.

You know I am in again! I am going to go for 130 miles this month between walking and biking. Now that the weather is cooler, I plan on getting out on the new bike more and escaping the garage! So 130 miles it is!

Good luck to everyone, just have fun, enjoy and challenge yourself. Don't compare what you can do to what everyone else is doing. We are all at different stages pre op and post op. Just do what you can, that's better than nothing at all. Just have fun!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
