Over a year out at not at goal.

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved aug 28th 2012. I am down from 240 to 157. I am so discouraged because I'm not at goal. I bust my ass at the gym. I don't eat 100% perfect but i am still so restricted I can only eat a bite or 2. I stay away from Pasta and rice. I eat dairy, meat and Protein Shakes for the most part. My np said I'm crazy that I'm right on track but the hell I am. I am 5'1" and still have a big belly! I don't get why it won't come off! I swear since I had my gallbladder out last march my body won't give up this fat! I want to have a Tummy Tuck and a boob job this winter because I start school in the summer but can't till I get to goal! I thought with the weight loss I would feel better about my self but I feel life a failure! I hate hearing everyone say how skinny I am because I'm really not! I don't know what to do I feel so helpless

You are not a failure. Look at how much you have lost.

I have some body dysmorphia issues too. Everyone says I'm thin but that is not what I see. I see huge sabblebags on my thighs, a spare tire around my middle, and a hanging panni. However when I go try on size medium clothes, it gives me some perspective. So no you are definately not a failure. I also stalk My Body Gallery to help better guage what I look like. I look up other people at my old weight and my new weight, it helps.

I have the same issue with my belly. It's coming off every where else but even with all my cardio and weight training my tummy has yet to tighten up...as for the getting to goal issue, I'm sorry for your frustration but it sounds like you've simply plataued and are going to have to start tracking inches instead of pounds. don't not start school though, you probably look a lot better than you think. Hoping for you all the best

Thanks everyone. I definitely have body dimorphic disorder. When I was fat I never looked in the mirror and saw someone that big it wasn't until I saw pictures I finally saw how large I had gotten. I am just really struggling with it all. I hate hate hate my stomach the skin is so bad and there is just to much fat there right now to do anything via surgery. I am 28 and single. The idea of dating let alone being intimate gives me panic attacks because how much I hate how my body looks. Even when I do the body image things online I hate what a 5'1" 160 person looks like! For once I want to be normal. People don't see it because I wear scrubs at work and they hide a lot. I don't know I'm just so discouraged and upset

This is what Bob Harper said in August, "It is all about your diet, I use to think a long time ago you could beat everything you eat out of you and that is just not the case."

I have to agree with Bob Harper. I personally know that my journey will be slow will always be about my diet. I just purchased 3 books online that deal with best recipes for weight loss surgery patients, what to do when you hit a plateau and a book about Protein counting. I need extra help.

I do believe in exercise because as my weight falls off I need to rebuild muscle otherwise my body will look worse.

I feel your frustration my belly skin will probably have to be cut off when I reach goal weight. I figure been fat for 7 years that belly won't bounce back on its own. And I won't have hanging skin. But I am not there yet still have a good 50lbs of fat to lose all over. I am 5.1 1/2 so being short I feel that my dream would be 110. Just hang in there. Know that you are not alone in your feelings and never give up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
