15 lbs to lose b 4 surgery

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie to the group. I've been reading lot of your posts and think this is such a Great place! Anyway, my insurance requires you lose 10% of your body weight before surgery. I was 295 at my heaviest and I am 280 now. I have to be 265 for surgery. It has taking months to lose 15 : ( I picked up a Protein Shake today. I am going to do two shakes a day and a small meal. I know many of u have been in my shoes..... Any advice on how I can lose the 15 lbs the fastest???

I can tell you that I have lost 18 pounds doing exactly what you are doing following my doc's pre op diet.

How much are you prepared to suffer? I have lost 10 lbs so far on my pre op diet. 4 shakes a day + a dry salad. It's been about 2 weeks. Good luck.

I lost very quickly on a low-carb pre-op diet. I could eat whatever I wanted, but I could have no more than 20 grams of carbs per day. So that is basically meat, cheese, and vegetables. I lost 19 pounds in two weeks and I used MFP to track my carbs.

I always lost weight the fastest and more easily if I stayed below 20 carbs a day. I never really counted calories, as long as they were Protein calories.

I have found that walking has truly helped me.

I did phase 1 of south beach. Now I still follow it for dinner but do 2 Protein Shakes during the day and beef Jerky. Down 15 in 5 weeks. I'm a slow loser. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
