Ok so at about 5 weeks out I had to get IV fluids due to dehydration. I felt tons better after but still have yet to get the required 64oz in. The last few days have been really busy at work and I've forgotten to keep up with my fluids (what I was managing to get in anyway) Now I'm starting to feel dehydration coming on again. I started drinking some G2 yesterday. I got a full 20 ozs in yesterday and I almost have another 20oz in today. How much will it take to combat the dehydration? I really don't want t have to go back for fluids.

It took me a long time to be able to reach both my calorie and Water goals. But the simple answer is that if you're awake, you should be sipping. It's almost impossible to do otherwise, at least in the very beginning.

One thing that really helped me get my fluids in was using a stopwatch app on my phone. I set it for 10 minutes for the first four weeks and then 5 minutes after that, and every time it went off I took a sip of Water. I also get busy at work and would forget to drink, so it really helped. You really need to push yourself until you get to the 64 oz per day mark- less than that and you are putting yourself at risk for dehydration, plus you will lose weight faster the more water you drink.

Thanks for the replies. I do have an app on my phone to remind me to drink. I have to leave it on vibrate mode while at work. This past week I've been helping train a new girl and since we have someone training the new girl all day, one person on maternaty leave and one peron out sick for 2 days, our 4 person team was reduced to 1.5 people. Which ment non-stop phone calls and data entry. I have to admit I ignored the buzzing on my phone or didn't notice it at all until I started getting that feeling in the back of my throat.

In reference to Gatorade 2 does it really combat dehydration or is it just empty calories? And if it does how much is it going to take? I drank a 20 oz bottle of it both Friday and Saturday along with as much Water as I could get in and I'm still feeling the drying in my throat.

My health coach also recommnded putting a pinch of salt in my Water with the therory that water follows salt into you cells. I tried that once but haven't tried again. I don't want to consume too much salt.

Thanks

Any other suggestions? I REALLY do not want another IV.

If you don't want to drink G2 because of the calories and carbs then drink Smart Water it has electrolytes in it. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
