Hi ! Iam considering going abroad for sleeve to save some money. I am almost, 40, my weight drive me crazy and have finally decide to so something with it. I have 290 lbs and want them down. But because the price in UK is approximately £8,000 for it and more

I want to try abroad clinic, in Europe, where costs can be around £2000 only!

Even I have seen some reviews about Cyprus and Poland (bad and good ones) I am more likely to go to Prague where my cousin is live now, but i have not find any reviews about clinic there, i have found this in Prague(http://www.royalmedical.cz) and Brno (cosmetic-bliss.cz) focusing on sleeve .... but dont know which one to pick.

Please, have you ever heard about these? Or tried to go through ANY surgery abroad?

Thank you for all you replies, if you want to I will keep you updated if decide to go abroad...

Hello Linsday!

I am a European living in UK, and YES it is waaaay too expensive to have it done here. I am going back home (Hungary) in January to get my sleeve.

I have looked at a lots of sites and talked to Europeans, but I have never came across 2000GBP...who offers it on that price?

Well, obviously I will have it done in Hungary by one of the best surgeon (Dr. Miklos Tanyi) for 3500GBP. That is the cheapest I have found in Europe. In Hungary Dr Elemer Mohos is also very popular, he works for the same price.

Also very popular amongst Hungarians Dr Martin Hruby, he is Czech, and you can find him on http://www.newleafwls.co.uk/ , but I think he is slightly more expensive. I do not know about Poland but I imagine they have low prices also!

I don't know anything about the ones you mentioned, I tried to research it myself but very few review I was able to find...

I wish you good luck and of course if you want to I could get you in touch with my Dr.

xxx

Me again,

I check Hruby's prices for you, it is about 3800GBP and that is not bad coz everything is included except your ticket: all pre-op examination, 7 days hospital stay, meals, medications. They charge quite lot for airport transfer but mind that he is not in Prauge that is why he is cheaper I've heard. Maybe your cousin could give you a lift to his clinic??

I am from Scotland and went to France for my gastric sleeve. The hospital I used was Hopital Jacques Monod, Groupe Hospitalier du Havre in Le Havre. My surgeon was Dr. Bokobza. The price was £5350.00 and it was the best money I have ever spent. Two nights in hospital and three nights in the hotel and this included my friend.

There is a hospital in Belgium (I can't remember it's name but if you google WLS in Belgium I'm sure it will come up) which is cheaper but I couldn't use it as my BMI was too high. I had my surgery on 18 September and since then I've lost 28 pounds. I feel terrific, have more energy, have moved from 7 HBP pills per day down to 1 and no longer have lymph oedema in my legs.

Your alternative is to go to Mexico where it is around $4500 which is roughly £3000 plus your flight of about £600.

Keep in touch and let me know what you are thinking of doing.

I live in Canada and had surgery in the US. My family doctor in Canada did all the follow up care. My surgeon suggested I have the vertical sleeve because there fewer problems with that surgery, and follow up is easier. You need to make sure you have a doctor where you live willing to look after you after the surgery and set it up before surgery. Best of luck.

I went with cosmetic bliss and I could not fault them, however, I have heard this week that the company has gone into administration.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
