Any Twenty-Thirty Canadians Around?

Recommended Posts

Say hi and state your date if you have it or your results if you're post op :)

I'm from Alberta, surgery date set for November 12th in TJ, Mexico with Dr. Ortiz at OCC! So excited! Though I start my liquid diet on Monday for 15 days so that's a bit intimidating!

I'm in Alberta too, having surgery in Medicine Hat on the 28th of Nov. Pre-op starts on the 6th... Admit I am at the very tail tip end of 30's though lol. Good luck, you'll do great! :-)

Did you have a super long queue for surgery here? I know I've been on a list for a year and having even gotten a call to go for preliminaries yet so I said "Screw this!" Lol

I did wait 7 months after my referral for my first visit. To be honest I had pretty much written it off during that time. But once I had my first consult in March it was really fast moving as their center is relatively new so their list is not typical. I managed to drop the required weight really quickly so they offered to put me in over the summer due to cancellations but because I was doing so well I thought I'd just continue to do it the old fashioned way but it didn't last long after that so I changed my mind in Sept and they pencilled me in. I realize how spoiled I am compared to the majority. It is a 3 hr drive one way to apt's but so worth it.

Are you nervous about being so far from home? And are you going alone?

Nah I'm not nervous at all, just excited, as far as I'm concerned I am going to be see the best surgeon I could have hoped for. His credentials are amazing and the others on this forum who have seen him have nothing but good things to say. My father decide he wanted to come with me so that's nice :) they've been very supportive through out this process

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
