high protein snacks?

A dehydrator, and a spiral slicer, and a Vitamix or Blendtec, are investments I can't make right now :(

I calculated the nutritional facts on that recipe based on making 3 dozen balls...not sure how big those would be though! lol

Nah' date=' haven't tried humus stuffed deviled eggs. Do you just use hummus instead of mayo? [/quote']

But how many balls equals a serving?

When I make the hummus stuffed deviled eggs I mix 1/2 my yolk with edamame hummus and some plain Greek yogurt instead of mayo.

Hmm, that's very interesting!

I don't know how big to make them to make 36 servings, to be honest. I only calculated the nutritional value once when I posted the recipe to my blog. I would say perhaps scooping them by tablespoons would create 36? Sorry I can't be more helpful. After calculating the nutrition I just ate whatever amount :P

I think I may be answering the wrong question, one ball was used to calculate the nutritional content. So a serving the size of a small half dollar Peanut Butter cookie might be about right.

I'm just getting back to my blog (about my weight loss journey) because I lost 75lbs and gained it back. So now that I'm getting sleeved I will start posting again. I look forward to making new recipes, taking new pics! That was always fun!

I use a rule of thumb that a Protein snack must have at LEAST 10g of Protein for every 100 calories; ideally a better ratio. I really prefer the carbs to be under 10... way under 10, but that is not a hard and fast rule as that eliminates so many good protein sources. Do be careful about carbs on Protein Bars - i had to eliminate Quest bars as part of my "push to get to goal" due to the carbs

So a few suggestions:

-low carb Protein drinks including the hot cocoa one

-natural deli meat (makes a yummy sandwich with cheese all wrapped in lettuce)

-Ostrim sticks

-shrimp - well not really a snack, but I make many meals with shrimp. I make a shrimp salad with avacados, cukes, tomatoes and newman's own italian dressing that is heavenly

-greek yogurt goes way over in carbs, but still a good choice I think. I often buy a low carb yogurt called carb master

-eggs are really not that great of a protein bargain compared to alternatives, but i still use them as a meal/snack

I am one of those that don't count calories, but I watch portions and keep carbs low and make sure I get at least 80G of protein a day, most days 100g or so.

I love me some hummus but the carbs are just too high.

True story. Vegetarian here so I'm a lil lenient on the carbs. Edamame hummus is a yummy compromise.

Remember to subtract grams of Fiber from the carbs to get your net carbs. That makes legumes a better snack than you might think.

I focus on total carbs but dont worry as much about vegetable carbs. not everyone follows the same eating style, but this has worked for me.

I do reduce by fiber but not by the sugar alcohols. I don't trust them. Still, my nut is anti legume. Sigh.

@ CGJane - yeah it's a tradeoff for me at the moment, I don't want the carbs from a Quest bar, but I can't pass up the 20g fiber I get from a single bar, I just have to have the fiber but I'm not pleased about it.

I "like*" the Quest bars I've tried, and particularly the Protein count (>20 grams) and low carbs -- my NUT highly recommended them.

I've tried the Apple Pie, chocolate Peanut Butter and the mixed berry.

I've finally learned to keep one in my desk, backpack, etc.

Like" is subjective for me - 11 weeks out, I haven't found anything I love consistently. So like works for me.

Good luck - there are some great past messages with lists of Protein ideas on this site.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
