Ok, this emotional roller coaster has to end!

Recommended Posts

Right? I am one week post op and boy, oh, boy. Talk about an emotional wreck. Up, down, up, down. At least I'm not as weepy as I was. Just edgy now. I don't feel like "myself." Someone told me it takes about six weeks to start feeling normal....what is your guys' experience?

I am one week as of today too, and i have been the same. Really weepy... I cried the other night watching a commercial! I knew it would be hard, but no idea that I would be this emotional over it.

Hang in there, it does get better.

Here's why I was emotional after surgery.

My body doesn't like being cut on, that alone takes time to recover from

My body doesn't like being put under anesthesia, that takes time to recover from (weeks for me).

My comfort foods were taken from me and I was having to face life (and emotional upheaval) without them.

I felt like crap and was having trouble swallowing anything.

My digestive system was torn up and I was having trouble "going".

My stomach muscles rebelled every time I tried to sit up, lay down, or roll over.

I didn't feel like having relations with my husband, which really put me in a bad mood.

My disappearing fat cells were dumping estrogen into my system like crazy - making me an emotional wreck.

So you are probably feeling some or all of the above. Believe me - in a few weeks it will all get better.

I remember feeling that way! I don't however remember when I felt that way... but.. your body is still making as many hormones as your larger self. So if you have suddenly lost a lot of weight, the body hasn't caught up to not make as much estrogen. At least that is what I was told. It WILL pass. Hang in there! Best of luck on your journey(s)!

Ha! Sarah... I had to be on a liquid diet for FOUR months (leak/long story). You'd be surprised what you can do whenever you have to. Hang in there!

So much going on, and I am supposed to manage this liquid diet for two more weeks?!?! Oi vey!

OMG, I know! It's weird how much I miss the simple act of chewing. If you are anything like me, we're detoxing from not only caffeine and sugar, but we're detoxing from mindless eating, comfort eating, chewing in general, the feeling of lots of food in our mouths, and the feeling of swallowing a big bite of something. Things you don't actively think about, but once that is gone, you realize how strange it feels.

Ha! Yes! I am allowed sugar free popsicles and....OMG!!!! JUST TO CHEW something!!!! Ha! How normal does that make me feel?!?!?! Lol! I had head knowledge of how difficult this would be, but reality is sooooo different!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
