Teachamy 1,042 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) In stage 2, (3-6 weeks out for my surgeon/NUT) you should be eating a 1/3-1/2 c. serving of food per sitting, and 3 oz. meat. It sounds like you're in the ballpark! Beginning at week 7, I am told to work up to 1 c. of food per meal. I will be avoiding processed carbs (like crackers) as much as possible. AngelaTX 29 Posted October 24, 2013 I start stage 2 on Oct 30th. I'm ready to CHEW on something besides a Popsicle! My Dietitians meal goals are 1/4 to 1/2 c at each meal/snack. Example 2 oz of lean meat and 1/4 cup mashed sweet potato. Eat Proteins first. 3 meals and 2-3 Snacks at those amounts a day. No drinking 30 minutes BEFORE, DURING or 30 minutes AFTER a solid meal/snack. Snacks can be Protein shakes to help get all of your Protein in...then you don't have to have the 30 min wait..yay! We can have two high Fiber crackers with our tuna...she stressed high Fiber items when you do have toast/crackers. Hope this helps.
Danilax 56 Posted October 24, 2013 We don't all have the same restriction at the same points because each surgeon has their own preferred bougie size. For something like this, it is very important to go by the guidelines you got from your surgeon because this is something that will be directly affected by how your surgeon performed the gastrectomy. I know I couldn't eat 3 oz of chicken at 6 weeks, but my mother who had a different surgeon certainly could. It was about 4-5 months before I got up to half a cup. Macy6 356 Posted October 25, 2013 You are about where I was/am. I can handle around 3oz of chicken in a sitting, however it usually keeps me full for awhile. I know you said you didn't go all the way up to 3oz but if you can handle it do it or add on a 1/4C of steamed veggies.
